-.-;; Would be nice not to include everyone in general. Not everyone has issues and just stick with the subject. It only makes you sound condescending and proves how ignorant you are.

Before quitting %100, i suggest limiting your playtime. I would set an alarm and go do something else and take regular breaks, or you can set a daily play time before quitting %100. Quitting suddenly may bring some drawbacks because these games can be really addictive if you let them.
I, too, sometimes take breaks and there are times i don't play at all. But i can understand your struggle. Gaming can be an addiction too and you should start by cutting the time that you spend on gaming rather than completely dropping it in my opinion.
If it is too bad, and let's say it effects you from attending classes or going work etc. i recommend professional help. Take care.
How important to you are those "zillion" reasons for quitting? If they are truly important to you, then deleting all your characters and locking yourself out of your account by changing to a random password you won't remember isn't something to be avoided, it's something that needs to be done.
One thing you do need to do as soon as possible is find something to replace the time you've spent playing this game (and whatever other games you might be invested in that are adding to your problems). You're just going to fall into old habits if you don't have something to fill in the hole in your routine. Make that something new to do related to the reasons you have for quitting as opposed to another way to avoid them. If it's financial problems, get another job or start a hobby that can earn money. If it's family problems, spend the time doing things with family.
Continue with therapy. "A" therapy session rarely accomplishes anything. Generally, you're going to want multiple sessions (6-8, sometimes more) to get at the root of your problem and learn how to address it effectively.
FFXIV is probably the least addicting MMO out there xD. Just don't do these and you'll be bored within the hour xD:
- Extreme Trials
- Savage Content
- Level every single job
- Relics/Eureka
- Any form of Roleplaying
I’m really happy for you getting therapy, and I want to apologize for my earlier rude comment. I neglected to think that you were suffering from mental illness, and judged you, when I also suffer from mental issues.
With that said, if this game makes you happy, I wouldn’t quit cold turkey, but work with your therapist on establishing realistic ideals, and expectations with the game. Limit your time, and mean it. If you can’t, have someone else commit to turning it off when it’s time, so that you have to.
If that’s impossible, then I think limiting your gaming time is essential to you. I just don’t think you need to do it permanently. Get control, and practice it before coming back.
You could give all your money to a trusted friend, and discard all of your items, save for 1 level 10 or less weapon. That would effectively make your character a brick, and might discourage you, without fully deleting everything
Lol, this doesn't quite work, I ended up fully leveling both my companion chocobo, and my racing chocobo a while back. There's actually a fair amount of side content in this game. Like beast tribe reps, Triple Triad, crafting, etc.
Keep doing therapy, maybe try to find a support group/forum to talk about and get everything off your chest or get some advice. Uninstall your game, play other games, or go out and keep yourself busy with stuff. If your addiction cost you your job, apply for a new job and make that your top priority, anything to improve yourself as a person.
This is a pretty good video a youtuber made talking about his addiction to FFXI, his experience might help you in a way.
