Sony Reverses Stance on CrossPlay - Can we get an update on FFXIV for Xbox?

Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players.

Which means, That games have to support Xbox Live only, as well as cross platform.

I only play on my computer, which only runs Linux (all I've ran, since the Burning Crusade expansion of World of Warcraft), because it isn't on the Xbox One.
As with World of Warcraft, I'm surprised how well this game runs under Linux (unlike Wow, I had to switch to DX9 for this (Wow finally runs well with DX11 in Wine-staging Linux)

I've played ESO on the Xbox one, which is fun. It is just a different feel, on a console. Plus the console is made to run it optimally, for everyone, with a universal playing experience (at least for everyone on the Xbox One.)

In the ESO version, it is ONLY on the Xbox One; So you don't play with people who are not using that system. I think they are all separate (PC, PS4, etc.) I kind of enjoyed that, in a way, because you don't see anyone typing. It made it feel more like I was playing a solo immersion game, with some "NPCS" also out adventuring ;)

How does the PS4 one work? Can you be playing on a PC, then play the same character on the PS4???? If they could do that on the Xbox One version, I'd DEFINITELY buy it (but you might not have to? I'm sure you'd not have to have two subs, I would hope.) It would be ESPECIALLY cool for something like the "fishing" job (asking, again, because with ESO it is totally separate from the PC version/server.)

So on your account in the Mogstation it shows which platforms and expansions your account has a license for. All the characters associated with that account are available on all the platforms associated with the account. Im fairly(95%) sure you need to buy expansions for each platform you want to be able to play them on, but beyond that its just a single sub fee and you can go back and forth as needed.

Until Microsoft drops the requirement for Xbox live, you wont see FFXIV on Xbox anytime soon.

will i don`t think they will knowing the xbox one is failing there is no way Square enix is going to put ffxiv in a failing generation console square enix would lose money if they did maybe in next generation who know but for xbox one no way it not going happen so there that should end this post lol

Last we heard all the hold up have been issues with Microsoft, the last official statement we had on this was that they haven't even formally talked to Sony as the talks with Microsoft weren't making enough progress. The issues the main issues we have been been aware of with getting 14 on Xbox was gold membership being required and Microsoft having a policy requiring all Microsoft live players having the option to only play with other Xbox live players. As far as we know Sony has not been an issue in this.

Xbox live is a mandatory requirement for online play on the Xbox one. Where Plus isn't mandatory for playstation 4 users to play online. Admiteddly many developers still gate online behind plus for a multitude of reasons. Buts it's not a mandatory requirement like it is on Xbox.

Underneath all the surface hype this has been one of the bigger core points of the cross play situation. Microsoft would not allow online play without gold. And Sony would not make plus mandatory for online play. Which then adds issues of fairness if some players are locked behind a pay wall and others are not.

In XIV's case Microsoft also wanted there own servers which again connects to the gold point above and something yoshi wasnt happy with.

Another of the bigger issues with crossplay is policing games and servers and such stuff.
If Jonxboxgold harassed Jimpsplus on Jillscrossplaygameserver who has the responsibility and power to deal with that?

Sony are generally more lenient and happier to leave it to the game developers to police there servers. Microsoft however aren't so keen on that and want more power to police xbl themselves.. which again ties to them wanting there own servers for XIV.

If you look past the surface hype and actually read up on it you'll find there's actually a whole lot of intricacies holding back cross play. it's not just sony saying no or something like that.

I was of the understanding that it *is* generally mandatory for PS4 (but not PS3) games but this one is an exception, presumably because it already requires a separate subscription to play. Otherwise why would developers choose to lock multiplayer behind a paywall if they're not required to?

I don't know what the rules are for any other subscription games though.

I am not talking about other games because i can admit Sony has put up a barrier put regarding FFXIV like i said Ms never ever changed their stance wanting their own servers. They have had 3 meetings between MS and SE that i know of and it never went anywhere.
Dualshockers had covered it at the time and i have a friend that works at SE

There's advantages and disadvantages to gating games behind plus.

One advantage is it can reduce cheating and harassment. You can't just create a free account to boost your k/d ratio or easily rack up headshots or something similar. Also it helps deter harassment in some ways. the risk of a ban isn't much if you can just create a new id and jump straight back into the game and be a douche. putting games behind plus is a small deterant to that. you might think twice about cheating or being a douche if its gonna cost you to get back online...

A disadvantage though is that putting your game behind plus might reduce your potential customers. this might not be such a problem for big budget developers but for indie studios it can have a big difference. allowing people to play your games online without plus. can help you get extra sales. which is in part why the indie scene is much bigger on ps4 than it is on xbox. and in some views also why the ps4 has majorly stomped xbox sales in some countries.
