They should just add access to the dresser UI from the Housing section of the main menu. Perhaps make it so we can only access it from inside houses and apartment.
*waves magic wand* and presto. No need for furniture, contrived/fabricated placement issues, or any other excuses. The end.
I really don't buy their glamour related excuses, when we have almost 800 fish in the game, and a menu area for that. Surely just as many, if not more, people would appreciated a glamour flavored "Fish Guide" than the Fish Guide, with the 800 fish, that I'm sure only a small fraction of the playerbase even bother with.
With the implementation of cross-server travel a patch away, there's a good chance we won't see personal space glam dressers until Shadowbringers. I'm mildly ok with that since they installed one in the GC barracks. You can even buy aether tickets that take you right to the GC with Company seals (or you can sprint for 2 seconds from the Ul'dah aether if you're a Flame like me). However they cannot make this happen fast enough, IMO. To give us a break they could put a freaking retainer bell in the barracks (or even the GC). And make it so glam plates work on Retainers like they do on squad members. (Unless they did that already).
Also, I really miss the Gold Saucer inn. In FF7 it was horror themed. We need this--even if they do multiple themes or just standard GS.
Is it possible that the issue with "moving it around the house" is badly translated and not about the item data within it, but the design of the item itself? It's a complex shape with lots of drawers and compartments that might be more data-heavy than your average housing item? (Edit: They may have even done something odd like build it as "multiple items" that, in a controlled inn room, sit together permanently - but to give it to the player, it might be something like the empty dresser is one furniture piece and the moving drawers are another.)
Either that or it has been rigged up with some second-hand programming that was designed to support FC chests or something communal, in which case limiting it to single-person instances is a complicated way of preventing other people from accessing your version of the dresser.
