Materia: the new Armory System

In all fairness, The 4x limit on NQ was something I was back and forth on. I wanted HQ to be a bit better.. maybe a tiny success rate bonus for materia melding?

Actually, that sounds much better as it reduces the loss of HQ items.

You can already meld HQ and NQ items 5 times (there's kind of an achievement and crown for it) and there's already a ~5% higher chance of the second meld succeeding on a HQ item (compared to the same materia with a NQ item)

I'm fully aware of the current 5-meld limit (and the ~.007% chance of getting one)

But, as all of my melding to date has been on NQ items, I wasn't aware of the bonus to melding from HQ.

In my proposal crafting gear melding would remain as it is, so no change needed~

Agreed on the point of crafted gear being stepping stones to or side-grade of end-game gear. Before you get that ultra cool awesome end-game dungeon/NM gear you need to wear something, make that crafted gear. Then as you said, also make it relevant to specific builds.

Yea, I think if end game/dungeon gear had super stats but took a lot of effort (see months) and fighting (see HNM) to get... then you'd still need the crafted materia stuff, and use it for a long time

Ya, I was actually one of the people who "liked" it. I just forgot to include it in my response. I wouldn't necessarily say it's better or worse but it does build on them, which I like.

I think thats coming - but post 2.0, and after several cap increases (I'm guessing you are referring to something along the lines of FFXI relic/mythic weapons.)

Keep in mind, once the level cap is raised, the current Blue U/U stuff will likely become obsolete.

Yoshi~P has stated that he is planning on making some harder versions of the Ifrit and Moogle battles with better rewards. These could either be more powerful versions of the weapons, or perhaps some special items to upgrade the current ones.

Then again, he could be introducing things like Ifrit/moogle rings, or maybe even the summoning pacts for player companies.

Oh, good. Your original proposal limiting NQ items to 4 melds made it look like you really hated the crafters who had already managed to get their 5-meld achievement with NQ items. Thanks for clarifying that you don't hate those lucky few and instead just have no idea what you're talking about.
