What ever happened to the increase in inventory slots

I highly doubt that any dramas or accusations of bad press are what in the end move SE to actions, I understand that ppl want to things to be changed asap, but the reality is that they cannot, housing cannot be changed at it's core, they goofed at the start and the only thing they can do is patch it up or find alternative fixes, however they are and forever'll fixes never a real solution, they cannot simply modify the system because they would've to strip it away and rebuild it and that is not happening.
The same goes for inventory.
That doesn't mean that the community shouldn't give feedback over bad practice however ofc

Square Enix is not some indie developer nor is FFXIV a kid's pet project we shouldn't be too critical of. It's a AAA release from a multi-billion dollar company who subsequently charges for its service. If we deem such a service unsatisfactory, then we absolutely retain the right to criticise it. ARR was not a miracle, but simply had a dedicated enough fanbase willing to give SE a second chance. People's patience has dwindled over the years, especially when they now feel slighted.

Don't like SE did us any favours. They want our money and nothing else.

Because while the server may have let's say 500k playing as a whole, if only 25k people buy the premium then they only need to worry about +70 choco saddle for 25k people.

Now if they just outright added +70 for 500k there would be a higher risk for instability since more characters have access to that extra data for storage.

However, let's just say everyone paid into it 500k X 5 2.5mil, in theory they would have the funds to further increase the stability of servers and over inventory because of said extra funds going into the game now

I hear failing games get reworked into being very successful games every other Tuesday.

They are more than likely to get shut down idd, ARR was a miracle brought by both developers and playerbase, saying that the dev teams doesn't really care sounds wrong to me, they could've simply closed the project, sell the franchise to the highest bidder and get on with their lives

@Airget: I do have the feeling that the reason we are getting this problems with the duty servers in 4.0 and 4.2 partly because of the increased inventory they added. It could just be a coincidence, but it's something that still is on my mind

It was 4.1’s housing rush that broke the (housing) camels back:
When the servers crashed from everyone flooding in and trying to grab a shiro plot all languages of the OF collectively vomited lava, several gaming news had articles on the housing crisis, popular xiv youtubers ranted, reddit & twitter exploded, etc.

Prior to this point, we were repeatedly told servers couldn’t handle a huge housing increase…but after the community's viral meltdown, servers could suddenly handle a 50% increase of housing plots/wards.

The exact same situation happened when they upped the price for BR/RU players- radio silence until players caused a big enough scene. Only then an apology and payment extension was made. SE is surprisingly quick to snap into action when their bottom line is jeopardized by bad press.

It's not as simple as "remove 5 years worth of content" because you cant manage an inventory and just want hundreds of item slots accessible on the fly.

edit- Honestly. This inventory 'complaint'. You guys are asking for a miracle.

You've already had miracles. Let's count them. First of all, 1.0 even releasing. It was in development and was constantly delayed and project was rebuilt multiple times. Actually getting instanced content was a miracle (Titan CANCELLED got Garuda instead). Yoshida was a sort of miracle. Unfortunately full 1.x patch notes are difficult to find through legitimate means.

ARR launch was a miracle and a curse. It was awful. Same server instability it still has today and it had in 1.x. BCOB was literally broken and spent a month being hotfixed and people still argue about who was the real world first (it was BG). Another miracle: Heavensward- that the game would actually get the expansion it was promised for so long, after so many blunders.

The last miracle?



We're still stuck on the same cankerous pile of chocobo dung that at one point rendered flowerpots with as much memory as a playercharacter, and you think we still don't have enough inventory space? Heck at one point they even decided that forums were "not useful for player-developer communication". What sort of mmo launches without a forum? Look how far we've come.

And yet you still don't have enough inventory for Puk Wings and Hi Ethers that you will never use.

So since you want to insult to think this is a hoarding problem holding on puc wings, let me enlighen you what it is like to be a career crater. The following list is to make things and replace contently to keep 8 x 20 slots full:

Deepeye Tears
Blue Cloud Coral
Volcanic Rock Salt
Sprig of Mist Dill
Bear Fat
Amphiptere Skin/Amphiptere Skin/Dark Chestnut Log (all 3 because leather is sometimes cheap)
Aurum Regis Nugget/Aurum Regis Sand/ Gold Ore same as ^above
Gold Ore and Aurum Regis Sand are however needed for other synths so this needs to be on stand by regardless
Adamantite Nugget/ Adamantite Ore/Darksteel Ore
Darksteel Ore are however needed for other synths so this needs to be on stand by regardless (keeping a 999 stack is attempted)
Crawler Silk
Crawler Cocoon
Silkworm Cocoon
Effervescent Water
....

I hope you get the point, the time it will take to list all the items one can use to craft will take a while. But then you do need to consider the 999 thing helped a lot but that was due to the high number of items you need. For example, you make 9 blood cloths you need 108 Bloodhemp. You go though 99 cedar logs/Dark Chestnut Log, birch, sands like it was nothing. Do you know how fast 999 coke can be used? Not even 4 airship parts, it took 1500. How much items you need to keep crafting is insane.

Maybe the game shouldn't require "hundreds of slots" on the fly if they can't give that.

While I sympathize with you over the amount of inventory needed for the level of crafting in which you engage...you also have to understand that, and players like you, are far from the majority, and inventory solutions are highly unlikely to ever satisfy your specific needs. At best you'll end up with workarounds (like mailing to alts, which WoW offers and this game desperately needs).

So what? SE makes changes for the minority all the time. Why should career crafters be walked over on?

Mailing alts does not work here, due again not enough space (talking about 5 items per letter)

Another thing is, crafting in general is overall in the low end because everything is hand me, why have a poor design because something else is poor? I will give you a recent example from another crafter I know. She has all the materials for Scintillant Rings but due to inventory space frustrations and how meany items it takes to move to make it, simply did not make them. Not worth the time to bother. (11 items, 3 letters, then one needs to make room even temporarily for that) So why is someone's enjoyment greatly hindered due to not giving enough inventory space? Just takes too much time to deal with.

And what?

My ultimate point wasnt fanboying over SqE. My point was they can't just wave a magic wand and magically double the server capacity; and like any business they definitely aren't going to do it for free. There's no place to fault them when it would be stupid to do otherwise.
