During my short run on JPN servers, I would not say they are less toxic just a different type of toxic. NA toxic behavior seems more personal, and direct while JPN it seemed like it was not as direct and happened behind close doors so to speak, yet in an open forum like stream. Hard for me to explain.

1) NA communities have a very strong sense of individualism. (Also, the NA community would probably never organize a mass in-game protest against jerkwads like what the JP players did with the naked roe parade against the offenders, especially when the offenders were high-tier raiders. The high tier raiders had to basically vanish outright by completely changing their identities/possibly transferred to a different server entirely for the protests to stop.)
The general philosophies that are valued between both communities (can't say much for EU, they usually seem like NA-lite) are very different, and it's also why there's this big culture clash between them too. -

Japanese in my opinion have more common sense than the players I've met here. They have a better sense of common sense than American players from my experience. Unlike American players ( I also happen to have plenty of hardcore Japanese friends ) most believe in hard work and as much as I hate to say it, here in North America we have the cupcake / snowflake generation where people expect to get something for just trying so it's all about them rather than the whole. Hence way way more North America Drama.

Bought up believing they are the centre of the universe and can have everything they want without any thought or consideration for others ...
It's also why there's such a huge debt problem in the West because of the way younger people blow there money on crazy stuff. Pay this bill or buy this shiny game mount?
There's loads of articles about it out there and while they may not all apply to games they do nearly all have evidence that can be related to games and stuff. -

It's pretty hilarious that certain posters are trying to make this into a political issue, pushing the false narrative that people on a specific side of the political spectrum are somehow the cause of most of the rot within FFXIV's community. That couldn't be further from the truth - especially when you consider the number of individuals who invest a significant amount of their time into the art of virtue signalling and showing everybody how 'tolerant' they are only to behave in utterly loathsome ways. They'll never miss an opportunity to tell everybody how how much they hate 'bigots', though. Often bending over backwards to harass, bully and ridicule those who aren't part of their 'group'.

I can't say whether OP has truly hung out with JP community or not and I can say I have not (to my knowledge anyway, could be JPs among us), but honestly this sounds like another of those threads where someone is trying to blow off steam after having a bad experience. The fact that so many seem to agree means either some people are being sarcastic/trolling or too many people are having bad experiences with PUGs/their server's community.
As for my server: overall not bad. I cannot claim it is toxic-free but the toxicity levels are so low you don't really notice it. Our NN is nice, we don't treat it as a mentor chat channel that sprouts have to put up with or anything like that, and I can honestly say even on the forums I don't consider the community a "cesspool". Perhaps I am just used to how truly toxic and cancerous an online community can get and don't consider this one as such by comparison, but I just plain do not see bad communities in FF14, both in-game and on the forums. I cannot speak for other servers both NA and otherwise but this is just my viewpoint.
If you feel your server is toxic and you don't like it you can always transfer out. If your server feels toxic and you can't transfer out because you have friends/comrades there then ignore everyone but them. If the bulk of the toxicity is experienced via PUGs then form a static or run with people you like and know aren't toxic. Good people and bad people exist all over the internet, and some may be in between, and it isn't just within certain groups like NA or JP but all around. Also someone's view on good and bad can differ drastically with someone else's view. I mean really, just because you meet some people you don't like and think are toxic doesn't mean we all are. -

If anything, certain communities have been echo chambers of specific views (mainly a virulent form of identity politics emanating from the left) for a while, and don't particularly like the presence of opposing political views, so they're doubling down on it, perhaps as a result of a lack of learning how to deal with opposing arguments at university or college, or high school. Kind of sad, I dislike how politics gets injected into everything, but you can't avoid it.
