Please remove gil cap

It's not that hard to get around
Buy pieces (vendor trash) and cler demimateria

The value isn't 1:1 in some cases (esp if buying out..as some people list them much higher than value), but both are vendor trash

Demi 3 ~ 5k each
Allagan ~ 25-10k each
(Vendor trash, so never lose their value)
Or just rare/expensive items in general

There's also the option of having a friend help you transfer i to alts (209b across 7 alts)
+ replacing inv slots with vendor trash (allagan plat and demi3 when possible..in that order)
Around 86~173m per retainer in trash

My bad around 5-10m a stack..since the 999 change
So 875m~1.7b

That's a much friendlier way to put it out than just demanding to know what I do with it, or asking why would I want more. To be fair, I spend a ton of gil in the game, like millions each day. As a good friend of mine said, spending money can be a ton of fun, but just throwing it out the window for the sake of wasting, is not. I just enjoy amassing large quantities, and I like to think someday there will be some kind of content where having a lot of gil will be rewarding. It happened with housing back then, and as I was well prepared even before they announced them, I was able to get myself a tier 1 house for over 550m when nobody else could, and everybody asked why would I want more than 50m because there was nothing to spend it on at the time. That was rewarding, and I look forward to waste all my money on a new and fun gil sink in the near future.

For those interested, SE most likely used a long integer as the currency value.
A cap change would be implementable without any achitechtural changes, just some programic changes which are most likely a couple of max constants.

A signed long integer has a range of -2,147,483,684 to 2,147,483,647
The cap could be increased to 2 billion.

An unsigned long integer has a range of 0 to 4,294,967,295.
The cap could be increased to 4 billion.

But, since SE like their 9s as the max leading digit, I do not see them making any change to the current caps.

Well you must admit it looks a lot better. Even if they raised the cap to 4B (I assume unsigned here as allowing a negative gil value would be silly), you'd just have people crowing about "why does the leading digit stop at 4? Why not 9? How will I indulge my Scrooge McDuck fantasy?"

The current gil cap is the largest number SE can create that is composed entirely out of 9s without extreme contrivance.

You can't possibly sit there and act as if this doesn't look like bragging. And to refute your "strawman" claim, whether she's bragging or not, it still does not change the fact that, once again, this is a forum, filled with people who will voice their opinions. Not once did anyone, including myself, "demand" for her to share what she was doing with her gil.

This is the only only thing I will apologize for, as I could have, and should have made this point myself in the beginning. Karshan is exactly right. When you're posting this kind of thing on a forum, yes, curiosity will ensue, but why would the OP think that the devs wouldn't require a reason other than "My retainers can't hold anymore?" Because that is not a reason. That's like saying "my pantry can't hold any more food, I need more pantry space", yet your refrigerator, your basement freezer, and your cabinets are filled with food. Naturally anyone would be curious as to why you're hoarding so much food, and barely eating any of it. You cannot say that you're not getting your money's worth with your extra retainers if you know exactly what each of those extra retainers are capable of. Each retainer has a set amount of gil they can hold, and everyone is aware of that. If you've capped all of your retainers, you can't blame SE for that. Capping multiple retainers, your own gil pouch, and multiple alts obviously shows that even if you're spending money, you're not spending a fraction of what is needed to offset your income.

This is the first reason she's given that had nothing to do with her retainers, and very likely what the devs would want to know in regards to considering her request. It still isn't a good reason, however. "I like money, and I want to have more" is not nearly justifiable enough to make a non-trivial change to the currency system. Especially a change that would barely benefit any players in the game. This conversation would have gone MUCH differently if the topic made more sense. Instead of "The gil cap needs to be increased", clearly what the issue for OP here is "We need more gil sinks". Which would have been a much more valid discussion.

There is a lot more drama than is necessary in this thread.
