This isn’t much different from people that log in solely to keep a house. If you can pay in advance, I can easily pay for an entire year’s worth of “rent” or “fees” or whatever euphemism you want to use for this system, and then unsubscribe until I feel like coming back. And my house would still be there. The “pay in advance” feature of this is effectively working against the auto-demolition, which a few people have already pointed out to you, and is no different than the players that log in every 44 days, touch the summoning bell inside their house, and then log out until the next Day 44 of Demolition Countdown.

This system will not stop housing flippers, or house-loggers. They will just work around it, because unless the fees are exorbant (which would be unfair to the casual player who earned just enough gil to purchase and furnish a house, and do not make millions of gil every day from crafting or what have you, OR farm Poetics or Wolf Marks or GC seals or MGP endlessly, no matter how easy they are to come by), they’ll just pay their “fees” in advance. Or charge house buyers the fees they’ve had to pay up until the plot they’re trying to flip sells.

What you have suggested is not a solution.

Already one in the game it's sub based, if you don't log in at least once every 30 days it gets demolished and put back up on the market. They stopped it, it didn't prevent people from doing it. An upkeep fee isn't a problem to someone who drops millions into a house...they will pay that fee and still won't solve the issue. My problem is people making a fuss over something trivial, you don't do anything with the house, there's logically no reason other than for the sake of having one to prove you had enough wealth to afford one. Now if this were Sims style and build it however you want within reason then maybe, if it had interactivity besides ooh pretty copy and paste to the next house then maybe.

I also wouldn't want any kind of fee to keep my house (well my sister's, we share it). We barely make enough gil to buy things we want from the mb. Having to pay to keep our house would probably make us go broke and never afford anything else. MGP or anything else wouldn't be any better. I want to save my MGP for future items in the Gold Saucer.

And yes I did read the whole post. And no we do not have our house as some sort of status symbol. We decorated it ourselves (nor is it expensively decorated) and we just use when we want to get away from other players or to just have fun in.

Well that is my opinion on it and is all I will say.

You make some valid points to consider. It’s not an overall fix, but something that couple be explored, if nothing else. And honestly, if a person is only logging into the game every 44 days to step into their house, chances are, if they had to instead pay a fee, they might not be active enough to gain the resources to cover the cost. There are checks and balances that could be put into place, limit the amount of time you can prepay upkeep for (so only one month in advance), and the in advance payments could only be through one specific method, rather than using all types of currency.

The Auto-demo feature is easily worked around though, and just makes it so if you’re paying a sub, you can keep your house. SE basically nannies people and sends them an e-mail to remind them to go into their house. I feel like that should be removed. If you want your house, you shouldn’t be reminded to go into it, like a parent telling a child to play with an expensive toy they’ve been ignoring, other wise it’ll be going to the good will.

So, neither one of you has any currency at all to spare? Poetics you don’t use, or Verity, Wolf’s Marks? Hunting Seals? Beast tribe tokens? Not a single thing on the entire currency tab is ignored, you are both constantly using ALL of them you’ve built up, consistently?

Bear in mind, when I say an upkeep fee, I meant it would be something more or less negligible, something that would punish wholly inactive players/flippers just sitting at level 1 on a plot, and not people that are actually playing the game. People that actually play the game shouldn’t have an issue at all with this, if the system is adjusted properly.

I mean personally I worked hard to get the money for my house since I don’t craft much it was a pain in my ass to get it. It seems harsh to take all the gil I own to keep my house since I might not make that money back in time before I had to pay it again. And I don’t think I should lose the house I worked hard for when for this one month my computer/ internet has been messed up and getting fixed. Instead of demanding more from players demand more from SE, some of us worked hard to get our houses and shouldn’t be kicked out for “not paying rent”...

And the best solution would be to shift to instanced housing so that the housing supply can meet the housing demand. Not implement arbitrary charges a la a mortgage in a veiled attempt to curve house-loggers or house-flippers. Because it wouldn’t stop either.
