Can Healers Stop Running Ahead in Dungeons

Some people will push others to achieve greatness. But only the great will reach for it when given.
Don't take it as a DPS being toxic. Take the suggestion as a way to improve. It's not a bad thing when it happens, nor is it (usually) anyone trying to be mean on any personal level.

We're mostly talking about the trash mobs in a dungeon, not bosses. Bosses should be pulled just how you described.

Constantly chasing after a-holes in a dungeon is not them pushing me to achieve greatness, it's annoying is what it is. They may not mean anything personal by it but it doesn't make it any less frustrating to deal with. To be honest, it is through my motivation to improve and become a better tank that I wish they wouldn't do this. Like I've said before, I don't get the time to become acclimated with a dungeon and develop my own strategies, test things etc, when I have a-holes running around causing chaos and making my job more difficult.

If you enjoy this type of play style, then by all means soak it up, not my cup of tea though.

I don't understand this statement. I'm assuming your referring more so to the topic of the thread rather than the conversation taking place but regardless, if simply talking about healers, or anyone for that matter, pulling mobs, causing chaos, and being a jackass is going to make healers quit then I say let em. If they quit over this they were more than likely part of the problem to begin with.


I'm not sure if most of the annoying players think like you do but if so, I thank you for sharing your insight and I will be sure to talk about it as much as possible so they will quit. Thank you

I'm not sure what your idea of "slow tank" is but it sounds like your against each player being their own individual person each with their own way of learning and breathing lol. Not everybody has to GO GO GO, you just think they do in order to "achieve greatness"... If you don't have the time to run a dungeon, play your role, and work as a group you shouldn't be playing. This is an MMORPG, dungeons consist of tanks, healers, dps and occasionally a-holes that want to run around and cause chaos. I'm not saying it isn't doable, I'm just saying it's frustrating and makes the game much less enjoyable.

It also takes away from the learning experience but hey I guess we all need to run around like chickens with our heads cut off in order to achieve "greatness"... I haven't rolled a DPS yet but maybe I will just to see how "great" some of these players are.


Also, I don't need others to learn that I can tank more, sometimes I do it by choice, I choose to not pull a ton of stuff. Sometimes I do choose to pull more and THAT IS HOW I LEARN. Not by other classes running ahead and going, GEEZ YOU'RE SO SLOW, LET ME HELP WOE$RIU*WEO!IU#@U. Greatness!!

I hope we get into a group, I think it's going to be a lot of fun. And I think you'll like it too from the sounds of it although I have my doubts.

I agree with this too. With all the bad healers I've gotten in some of the SB dungeons, I've been healing more than usual.

When DPS pulls ahead of the tank and the tank doesn't want to pull more, and I am the healer, I'll side with the tank and let the trigger happy dps's HP reach 0.

My example is an Ala Mhigo run when I agreed with the tank AND the other dps of letting the bard who ran ahead for bigger pulls get knocked out.

This reminds of the incident where i was receiving subpar/no healing and could barely stay alive through two groups of mobs even with cooldowns and tank stance, and one DPS ran ahead and pulled a third group, thereby killing me and letting the mobs turn and murder the rest of the group.
Wipe.

And then the same DPS who caused the wipe starts screaming at me for "Being a bad tank"
Well excuse me for not having any agency over the rest of the party's actions...jerk.
I mean, even Clemency can only do so much in the face of no healer support and the DPS doing purely single-target attacks on large groups and one of them pulling ANOTHER GROUP in the middle of all that.

But no, must use tank as scapegoat for own incompetence.

I preface all this by saying that 99% of the time im a fairly laid back BLM. If i didnt que with friends, i tend to just roll with whatever pace the group is going at. It hurts me a little to see my big AoEs only hit minimum targets(or worse, to be forced into a single target rotation because there arent enough to start with), but i complain to friends via LS and get on with my day. So with that out of the way... The percentage of healers and DPS who regularly run ahead of the tank in a dungeon scenario is fairly low - i see this less then once a month. If this is happening to you "constantly" then its possible that you are the problem. Another way to look at Canadanes greatness line would be this: A good tank can control a smooth pull and set up their group to succeed(enmity, cooldowns, positioning, etc). A great tank can take a chaotic mess and turn it into a smooth pull.
