I disagree that the game is full of selfish people, a fine example of player camaraderie in XIV is the number of players who will cast buffs and heals on you if they see you struggling with a fight at no personal gain. On a few occasions I have accidentally turned the levequest difficulty to high or accidentally attracted two sets of opponents and a passers by will happily watch for a while and cast heals if they see me struggling - a favour I have returned when I see others in the same situation.

Since we're attacking spelling and grammar here -- Let this person who speaks English as a 2nd language tell you that you need to:
1. Captilize the "I"
2. "dont care" should be "don't care"
3. "apostrof" should be "apostrophe"
Let's not correct spelling and grammar unless yours is also impeccable.

Meh, I kind of chuckle at the notion of "competitive gaming" and people who take it to that level. Generally, these are people with a handful of complexes or people who don't have any sort of thing they can (or attempt) to succeed at IRL. Just realize that and feel sorry for them and move on.
At the same time, some people may appear kind of exclusive because of time constraints and aiming for efficiency. Nobody has the responsibility to help others learn - that's a voluntary thing. So you can't really hold it against them.
Just look for a more casual shell and that will solve most of your challenges. You may not win as frequently as the "hardcore" shells but at least you will win consistently and have the opportunity to learn and experience alternative content.
