Undercutting by 1 gil?

Then there a the people who will tank the market on certain goods, just as a giant F U.
This holds true especially with slow moving items. They'll consistently relist it over and over, forcing others to undercut until the price drops to 10-20% of the going rate so they can buy it up for cheap.
The other tactic is history manipulation. This happens a lot when a character has 100s of millions of gil or more, and an alt. They'll list their product, use the alt to buy it all up at an inflated price, then relist. As far as someone checking the history know, that's the going rate. The only cost to the listing player is taxes on the spam buy, which is peanuts compared to the amount of gil they're hoarding.
A less aggressive version of this is when a person buys up cheaply listed items so people buy their's instead.
Unless you track prices on specific items over time, you can't know how much things are really worth. And it changes every patch when new craftables and gearsets come out.

Honestly OP, I'd rather have someone undercut by 1-200 gil than someone who undercuts by nearly half.

Yeah this annoys me no end as well. When people undercut to the point where an item is valueless (i.e. 1 gil item lol), they're only hurting themselves in the long run. Sometimes mats cost more than the finished item Oo

If it sells consistently then fair enough, I might only go a few gil under or even slightly higher if my retianers are in a lower tax area..

If things don't move that fast though I will often drop prices a hell of a lot. There was a fish I sold 6 of in 2 days towards the end of heavensward for 250k each. and some had guy flipping at me cos the sales history was like 1.5 million each before that point and I shouldn't have crashed the value
but before that they were only selling like 1 a month even though 3 were listed.... I sold 6 in 2 days...

The real problem I have with undercutters is people who don't understand quantities.. If you're selling stacks of 10 ingots at 10k each and I put a stack of 50 of them up at 9k each you really don't need to undercut that and put your 10 ingots up at 8k each....
Even at 10k they will likely sell faster than mine simply because you're selling smaller stacks....

One supermarket has something at £10 and another got it for £9.99 and the one next door at £9.98

I prefer to undercut by 1p than 10 million or 1k. People think they are being smart when they are actually daft and childish

depending on the size of the stack and where it get sell, I would buy the one that cost 1 gil more

No, the most annoying thing is getting an item, seeing all the prices are 200k, putting yours up for 200k, and coming back 4 hours later to find the prices have dropped more than 90%.

A better question: What is going on in the heads of all these idiots who put stuff on MB for LESS THAN A VENDOR WOULD HAVE PAID THEM!

My favorite is when you see items posted at 1 gil each in quantities of 1 multiple times by the same vendor. Like seriously, you'll owe SE money after taxes ;).

I am really not sure if we can use real life market logic in there. Not only do people get some items for "free" by having it drop in their inventory as loot but also because we have way enough people that sell it for less than what you would get at a NPC. (So I am not sure that they do it out of any logical reasons..) Also wouldnt that mean that its completely fine if someone that got it as a drop or present just throws it in for 10 gil, even though it would normally cost much more to make? And unlike real life where its really not possible to gather every single item you need for production yourself (and for free), you can do that in this game. One can just gather everything without paying a single gil so does it really have a cost? (Other than time)

IMO its just bad that people undercut for a great deal if the product sold a lot in recent time. Even if it did not cost him anything he would lose profit by undercutting a lot simply because the market would have bought it for the higher price too.

Also seeing how the main reason that people are even selling goods, is for making Gil I would say that a market crash will hurt those. Also there is truly no real harm in any way in this game. People could simply sell all their goods for 1 Gil only and it would bring no harm because you can get Gil through other ways too and it will just take a longer time to get to your aim. This also means that one could theoretically not go out of business even if they undercut way too much, since they can just farm Gil through other means.

It still more than annoying to see people undercutting and destroying markets that were going well..I mean if no item was sold for a long time then maybe its better to have a decreased price but not for those that are sold constantly.

So imo one cant just put real life market logic on this. We simply dont have limited items that are needed for crafting (other than time), people can craft every single little thing for free and they could get it as loot for free too so no cost behind it.
