I think public companies are going to be like Mercenaries for Hire.. when players or NPCs(quest wise) need help they apply/ask a certain company, who mayb a single linkshell owned or multiple linkshell merged, and they would help them for w/e the reward is, perhaps if the company gets famous - server wide - they might get special items or treatments.. jus my guess :P hehehe
True there is not much information atm but these discussions are not pointless, especially not in the general discussions section. The whole point of these forums is to exchange ideas players have regarding this game and to learn what the players want in terms of content. Even if the basic concept of companies is laid out, it does not mean they won't use information from forums to make updates or additions later on.
What did you except to find in a thread named "Public companies?" in the general discussion section of the forums other then speculations and assumptions. Its clear based on all the previous posts in the thread that no official information has been released or did YOU not read properly? when u clicked on this section of the forums, when you clicked on this thread or before u made your post.
I take special care not to do what you accuse us of doing here. I tend to deride players and podcasters that get lost in completely wishful chains of speculation; these end up making reality, when it materializes in-game, feel lame by comparison.
I believe most of the people writing in this thread remember specific mentions of player-managed companies by the previous team. I haven't seen the material you mention, in which Yoshida reportedly says the player-managed companies will have to wait. Would you mind providing us with a link, or a specific reference, to your source for # 2?
Thank you in advance,

The point I tried to drive home in my original post was that the new dev. team was apparently slashing one of the central promises of their predecessors without much of the oft-promised transparency of procedures and motives. I had no intention on opening a thread of groundless speculation. Neither do I believe, mind you, that this is what this thread has become.
I would like to respectuflly point that Mr. Yoshida specifically mentioned that the first obvious step for him was to make sure the promises of his predecessors were fulfilled. And rightly so. We, the members of this game's player community, have by now joined the group of its many stake holders. We are the base, and the testing ground, on which all hopes for the resurgence of the title are based. We have made an investment of our time--not to mention the individually small, but collectively significant monetary pledge--in the future of this game. This has been so because of promises and specific prospects. By now, we deserve to know if those change, and the reasons for it.
If the intention has been, as some have indicated, to have two types of companies and one of the two just got postponed; or if the player-run companies were indeed slashed because its planning was defective, or because they are to be replaced by an even better mechanism, then I apologize to the undoubtedly overwhelmed Mr. Yoshida for seeming to jump the gun. That wasn't my intention either, I just want to state my conviction that the player base deserves the transparency and communicative clarity that could very well end all the "pointless speculation" you seem to be complaining about.

All I want is some kind of competition but if it ended up being some weak, ad hoc'd pvp then I'll stick with a game that already has a good pvp system.
