The emperor is a reasonable person, as we saw. The enemy is the ascians, not the Garleans. The emperor doesn't trust the ascians, there is no reason to think the Garleans will not trust us. FYI long arsed quest chain to switch factions. That is a matter to the writing team however, I only wish to be able to join the Garleans because I don't want them to be all killed. The story is heading in that direction, it would be good if it became a struggle of factions, while also fighting the ascians.

Zenos defeating you can really only be explained by him using Shinryu's power, which you haven't become strong enough to overcome yet at that point. He's a resonant and can do that.

Really what bothered me is how SE basically jokes around about how you supposedly cannot defeat primals alone, while according to the ARR and HW story you do all the time without any help.

I definitely think Heavensward was hands down the better expansion, but I think Stormblood is at least "OK"

Well, considering that the storyline continues through the entirety of an expansion, and really anything can happen moving forward, I feel it's pretty unfair to say stormbloods story is bad compared to the others. It's not even over yet. But kbye!

We fought against the Garleans because they're genocidal conquerors that tried to destroy a continent by throwing a moon at it. We'll have to eventually force the Empire into disarmament or they'll just continually rebuild and invade, over and over again. They tried conquering Eorzea 3 times between Silvertear Falls and the end of 2.0 alone.

And now we will be the genocidal conquerors if we push further to kill them. I wonder why no one is thinking of that point? Is it different because you have the Garleans demonised in your brains?

Killing the garleans is not the answer, Stopping the empires advance is. We don't HAVE to commit genocide to destroy their capacity for war. And if we ever permanently did that, we'd be depriving ourselves of a good enemy for future story use.

Who said anything about genocide against the Garleans as a people? The Empire should be dismantled, but we've worked alongside Cid, Nero, Lucia, Regula, and Gaius knowing full well that they were purebloods.

Of the legatii, Solus, and the noble houses, the only people we know of that actually opposed Project Meteor were Varis(on unknown grounds) and Gaius(because he wanted the glory of conquest), and that support continued even after the first test incinerated a Garlean city and killed everyone inside. Why would anyone in Eorzea or Othard have any reason to believe those people will decide to keep to themselves? Things could be different under Varis, but we don't know enough about his morals to conclude that. Especially when he allowed his son to be used as a test subject.

Given the ease at which nasty primals and mosterous creatures pop up in the world I don't think disarmament is really a feasible this to ask of any nation. And Running it roughshod with adventurers just has me wondering if we would put up with something similar for long.

My biggest gripe about Stormblood comes not from the MSQ so far (though IMO it was pretty bland and detached compared to HW), but rather from what is looking to come. In Heavensward, Nidhogg was arguably a sympathetic but irredeemable antagonist who refused to let go of a grudge of 1,000 years. In my mind, characters like Fordola and Yotsuyu are the same, yet I feel like because they're attractive young women they get a pass from any consequences of their hate.

Fordola at least had well-intentioned motives, even if I think they were a mask for her lust for power. Yotsuyu is just a broken twisted ugly human being and there is no way the scenario writers can make a redemption arc for her feel believable, IMO. I'll be pleasantly surprised if her future story has any more depth to it beyond, "a filthy Doman saved me, I guess they're not all bad".

Project Meteor wasn't something that the average Garlean likely agreed with. Even Gaius was against it, when he heard of Nael going through with it. The same Gaius that also conquered Ala Mhigo without being genocidal.

Garlemald is a big place, there's bound to be factions that don't agree with everything, why else was there something akin to a civil war when Emperor Solus died?
