How to heal large pulls in stormblood as whm

I tend to open with a Holy... the tank takes damage while I'm casting it so while the mobs are stunned (and assuming no lilies), I cast Cure II to top the tank off and then Divine Benison and Regen. Then I cast Aero III, Assize and more Holy's with some Tetra and Cure/Cure II tossed in as needed. I try to give some gaps between Holy's until the mobs go immune to the stun to try and get the most out of the stun duration. If the tank is particularly durable I might start tabbing through the mobs tossing Aero II's on them as well. If the tank is particularly squishy I end up doing a lot less Holy and a lot more Curing.

I got Ala Mhigo and the tank wasn't doing the biggest possible pulls for that dungeon every single time, but from my experience the pulls she did were usual for that dungeon (for bigger pulls, same principles apply, but you will probably have to use Cure II more between Holys). I'm not very experienced with WHM in SB and I don't remember the expert dungeons that well, so my play there isn't really optimised. This made me laugh more than it should have. Because it seems SE doesn't like them either, lol

DRK is easy-mode tank nowadays compared to HW, you have to try really hard to go into an MP pit, or be one of those tier 9 tanks that never keep Darkside up. Anyone complaining about holy+blood price just needs to get with the program that the holy healer is going to do more aoe damage than blue dps.

Imagine if the tank pulled up to the first wall in the first area of that dungeon instead of breaking it up into two pulls or pulled everything between the two moss gates in the beginning of the Temple of the Fist. Do you do the same thing? Nothing in that video looks like the large pulls I'm referring to. They all seemed normal size to me.

Like I said, if the tank pulls bigger (I've had a WAR pull 5 groups in that dungeon, she was awesome), my healing strategy is generally the same, but I probably have to weave more Cure IIs between Holys. :)

I honestly don't understand why anyone would suggest Medica II for healing a single target, also from my own experience I don't feel like spamming Cure IIs is required. Using divine benison on the tank along with regen, gives you enough time for some dps eg holy+dots, and then you can start using Cure I when necessary along with the Freecure proc. If bigger heals are needed just pop Largesse and/or place Asylum. I feel like people are forgetting that healers are there to heal not to dps. Of course you should dps whenever you get the chance (at least make sure to keep your dots up) but it shouldn't be a priority.

But DPSing as a healer, especially as a WHM, makes dealing with these dungeon pulls so much easier: you will stun the monsters so that they're unable to deal any damage at all, and you will also contribute a huge amount of DPS making the fight shorter. In other words, it makes the pull faster, less dangerous, and saves everyone's resources.

I absolutely agree, that Holy speeds up the clears, however if the healer is having a hard time healing through the large pulls (which I believe is what this post was originally about), they should not feel pressured to put out a huge amount of dps, potentially letting the tank get too low, panicking and the whole party dying as a result making the whole dungeon clear significantly longer.

All I was trying to say, is that if you're new to healing, or you're gear is only "okay" for the dungeon where you can't easily pull off healing through big groups, you shouldn't feel bad to either ask the tank to pull less, or just focus mainly on healing and not stress about dealing damage too much.

Hmm, thanks for the info and video.

I'm just thinking of the last time I did Temple of the Fist where the tank pulled all the stuff between those two gates. At the rate of damage he was taking, I just can't see how a spam of holy would work. It may have been possible to use it to break up damage, but the casting a second one in a row would have meant his death or to save him with bene. But, then I could have only did two in a row once and not again. The stuns usually last around the time it takes to cast cure 2, which would only heal half of the damage that he took during the cast time of the holy and using a second cure 2 wouldn't bring him back up because the damage output is higher than a cure 2 spam. I generally take a more passive approach to large pulls like that and don't damage. If you happen to get footage of that pull sometime, I'd love to see it in action.
