Feedback on 4.05 Scholar

I'm just a newbie SCH & i'm enjoying the class a lot so far but there are a few points I feel that needs some working on.

In general I feel like SCH schields should be in line with AST schields. Either AST shields need some nerfing or SCH shields need some buffing.

I feel like Adlo & Succor need a little buff.
-Adlo: Reduce the healing potency by 50 (to 250 heal potency) but double the shield potency. (maybe remove the crit part of the skill to make it in line with AST's equivalent.)

-Succor: Increase healing potency to 250 but nerf shield potency to 50% (125 potency)
SCH already has good aoe shielding with Adlo & Deployment Tactics but lacks some decent GCD AoEhealing. Succor would still be ok to migitate less damaging aoe's.

Or instead of buffing Adlo & Succor give SCH a tool to make their next heal crit & give Succor a double shield on crit effect as well. Maybe rework Emergency tactics to ensure our next Adlo or Succor to crit. (Maybe with a longer cooldown to compensate)

Dissipation should resummon the fairy after the duration ends.

Excogitation should either heal half of the potency after the duration expires or give a shield for half the potency for 30 sec.

Both fairies should be reworked so both are useful for certain team compositions or fights.
Being able to swap them in combat would be great but I don't think thats how SE wants it to be. However being able to swap them depending on encounter would be great.
But the only way I would see Selene be useful is when we need an AoE Esuna or a silence. But neither of those situations happen often at all. They're both very (VERY) situational.
No idea about how they should be reworked though. i'd wish for Selene to be a bit more useful because I actually like the small dps increase she offers with Fey Wind.

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post, but I've just started playing a scholar (was a White Mage before) and am slightly confused - am I supposed to heal like White Mage using cure-like physicks, etc, or should I be relying on the shield spells more and topping up health with physicks and relying on my fairy to heal? :) I'm not sure I understand how it plays. Sorry for the silly question!

The latter is more correct. If you play SCH like a WHM, you'll think that the SCH is weak. SCH's strengths are preventive heals with the shields and letting the fairy be concerned with topping folks off. A good SCH knows when damage is coming and pre-shields the tank/party with Adlo and Succor while letting the fairy top people off unless you know that a lot of damage is coming in a short amount of time, in which you may need to use Whispering Dawn/Indom/Emergency Tactics+Succor. Excogitation (lv62) is good for tank busters. Because of the shields and fairy, SCH has more opportunities than most to dps... ish. It's not as easy now with how little the fairy heals for.

Casting Silence should be a DPS job and a group Esuna AoE is just unnecessary.

They should replace Silent Dusk with a single target version of Fey Caress on a 20 sec cool down. With the Fairy on Sic it uses Fey Caress to remove a single effect all the time anyway. Removing one effect more often would add to her viability incredibly especially at low levels.

Fey Wind should be the level 20 skill but with a 12% speed boost that decreases by 1% for each party member affected. Using this Solo would be great and having a party member out of range would increase it's benefit for those within.

The level 40 skill slot should be a Fey "Medica" on a 60 sec cool down to allow Selene to make actual use of Rouse like Eos. Eos would still trump in healing utility but Scholars would have a reasonable debate on which fairy to use if these changes were made to Selene.

Someone suggested that Sacred Soil be removed from the Aetherflow ability usage and just be a oGCD, which I'd honestly would be fine with as the skill really is only used in Raids and freeing it up for more liberal use would grant SCH some extra tools to use for their everyday ordeals without hurting their ability to heal effectively since Aetherflow abilities are so important to their healing now.

Selene needs a lot of help honestly. Increasing Fey Wind to 5% would be a good start but the real problem is Silent Dusk. It honestly needs to go in favor of ANYTHING else; Hell, a nice little burst heal with a moderate cooldown on it would at least make it mildly useful to have on occasion. I'm fine with the AoE purge on her since, while it does feel of limited use, there has been precedence for it's use in the past and I'd be shocked if SE didn't add at least 1 fight that could make it relevant again.

Dissipation and Fey Union need to be sorted out because they're in direct conflict with one another. Dissipation needs to grant a free fairy summon on ending, improve Aetherflow heals as well as standard heals and Fey Union needs to just be able to build, even when no fairy is present.

Honestly, the most confusing change to SCH as of SB was the increase in cost to Adlo and Succor; it literally makes no sense to me whatsoever to increase the cost of either of these abilities considering that AST shields are on par with them and are instant cast. Would a small potency buff to these skills be too much to ask for, considering their cost and that SCH really could use a tad bit more love in their healing toolkit that ISN'T tied down to Aetherflow stack usage as the pool of skills that require stacks is ever increasing and competing with one another. Either that or making Emergency Tactics reduce the cost by half.

The main problem with the AoE Purge from Selene is that other healers don't have a similar mechanic so making a fight where this is necessary leaves everyone playing WHM and AST with an insurmountable hurdle midfight. Luckily DPS can remove a few statuses now but I highly doubt that particular Fairy skill will ever have a shining moment to keep the skill ceiling from being too high for unprepared groups.

Aside from Silent Dusk, I think Selene is fine. Fey Caress is a free Esuna every 60s and a great "oh shit" button when multiple people get smacked with cleansable debuffs. Fey Wind doesn't need a buff as long as Silent Dusk gets a usable effect for end-game content.

A simple change for Silent Dusk would be to keep the silence effect, but also add "Lowers target's magic damage dealt by 5%" for 10s. Eos has a 20% magic defense party buff every 120s, and now Selene has a 5% magic damage down debuff every 40s.

-Ability to spread Chain Strategem with Bane
-Ability to spread Excogitation with Deployment Tactics.
-Give us Virus back. If our Healing is weaker, allow us to reduce oncoming damage more.

I *THINK* fey union is buffed by fey illumination, did a little testing earlier with it and ticks seemed much higher if I popped illumination first.
Although I was disappointed to find it was not buffed at all by rouse and I think it really should be.

It's also nice you can turn it off freely to conserve fairy guage. but it sucks that if you die the fairy guage is completely reset. especially given the time it takes to build it back up...
