You sold something that you weren't supposed to. It's all on you. If I were a GM, I'd secretly laugh while telling you I can't do anything about it.

It was a mistake. It could happen to anyone, even you.
At the very least, they can make the items re-obtainable by speaking to the NPC again, since there is no other way of getting the item back. I really wouldn't care if it was an item that I could make / obtain again through normal means.
I'm not religious but I pray to every God in the universe that you never get a job with even the slightest level of authority.
What's wrong with some people on these forums, has life been unfair to you?* A buy-back feature is an awesome idea and I see absolutely no logical reason whatsoever why you would argue against it being implented.
Also to stay on topic; Meowy I sincerely hope they help you get that Crown (:P) back, if only out of decency.
* I'm not interested in an answer.
Sad to see GM arnt doing what they should be doing. And for the ppl that say oh gms job isnt that, then why when he called SE they told them in game GM will help them.
They can restore items. I had a +2 body that I sold like a year ago by accident, cant remember the name of it but after contacting gm I got it back within a few hours. Just keep trying, they can definitely do it, then again maybe they just became lazy over the months.
Is there anyone arguing against it being implemented? I, for one, think a buy-back feature is a grand idea! And I don't see anyone saying otherwise.
Most of the debate has been about what GMs are responsible for relative to CS--specifically, are they responsible for reversing player mistakes?
If they actually DO reverse player mistakes in FFXIV, that's wonderful from where I stand. :) That involves a lot of work (and therefore money), though, which is why I imagine the process isn't easy.
If people are telling you that GMs can help with this and someone has gotten an item back than absolutely keep trying and don't give up!
*bump*
When next trying to poke the GM, make it clear that you were informed by CS that a GM would be able to do an Item restore for you.
Hopefully the contradiction in policy will get their attention.

just /sh in uldah swearing or being a racist somone will report you an will have your own private audiance with a GM very quickly then tell them your issue and that you have been bounce from pillar to post about this and you had to resort to such a drastic measure to actually get to talk to a gm..... granted thats a sure fire way to get a acount infringement but seriously they can make time for that but not even make time for talking to somone in a /tell
;) meh the menu based confirmation are your sure you want to get rid of "XXX" item click yes... ARE YOU REALLY SURE!!!!! click yes would be a small but useful thing for HQ/Green/Blue items
