You don't have to only click your mouse button. You can hit any key really... Like keep hitting the space bar or something.

My friend had recommended clicking both mouse buttons on your mouse hand and the space bar on your other hand together since it registers all of them for the progress bar. You can dramatically increase how quickly you fill the gauge by doing this. I went from having 2 seconds left in my progress for single mouse button smashing to around 4+ seconds usually. I hope this can help you succeed at this mechanic more often :)
Cure 3's always been a pretty situational spell, and use of it is up to discretion. Ideally you'd like to avoid it since its not as efficient as other options, but it's very good at its super-burst potential. With Thin Air and WHM's current impressive MP sustain you certainly have a lot more room to fit it in or spam it, but it's not often something that approaches "necessary." When it comes to wipe recovery, though, it can shine pretty well.
If for any reason you think the burst of it is worth it to prevent potential death, go for it.
It can help for akh morns if both tanks happen to be low for whatever reason (raid recovering from other mistakes, healers dying, etc). It can help for stackup mechanics if there's incoming damage afterward and you want people to have a safety buffer that Medica II would take awhile for. If I happen to find myself far away from the stackup marker, I might Cure 3 the damage from a distance rather than spend the time running back and then starting a medica 2 - I'd rather save the time. I've even used it for healing two chains that decided to run off together while tanks were getting blasted too.
However, I find myself using it a fair bit for mistake recovery before something big. If 2-3 people are all closeby and manage to critical themselves 3 seconds before the boss was going to put them there to begin with, a fast (including swiftcasted) cure 3 can save all of them. In Susano EX if the entire raid eats a lightning they weren't planning to and are relatively stacked, I'll cure 3 it in the name of safety and stability and follow up accordingly.
Often times, my cure 3s aren't necessary if the other healer reacts accordingly, too - but in the heat of the moment I err on the side of caution and deal with the repercussions afterward. The difference in another healer reacting in 2 seconds or 4 seconds can easily be the difference between life and death.
Edit: I fully expect to have savage fights..."greatly encouraging" Thin Air + Cure 3 a fair bit~
As someone else has mentioned, any key will work for that QTE. Perhaps try using both hands and splitting the button presses between your 8 fingers and 2 thumbs on your keyboard. It's what I do as a safety buffer (I have dyspraxia so have issues with co-ordination) to ensure I don't fail. When it's just clicking the single mouse button I am prone to failure due to my co-ordination getting the better of me, but just essentially smashing my fingers all over my keyboard has given me a 100% success rate.
And it's those loud few who ruin things for everyone who likes the challenge(or changes how course work in colleges...off-topic: breakfast class - yes, I went through culinary schooling - ended up starting an HOUR later due to two people who drove to school every morning, 15min drive for them, saying they couldn't arrive on time for the 6:50am start...I took the bus and train, across the city, leaving at 4:30am, and made it to class on time EVERY day)
But you need to be able to point out where the flaws and confusion is for players as there are some mechanics from old fights being seen here that players can fudge around in the original.
How many old hard mode fights do we just blunt force now from being overgeared? I'd honestly say basically all of them before SB. That's part of the issue here with players not knowing old mechanics.
I didn't consider that until last night as I helped an FC mate clear HM stuff so he could get his Thyrus. I had to actively explain the less obvious things in FC chat mid-fight as no one takes the time to explain anything because of the majority of players being so overgeared. Things like the damage down debuff on players in the gaols needimg esuna'd, or Garuda's two adds having different tethers and the green one needing to die first.
We just blunt force past those things in the old fights, while Shinryu murders with them.
I love the healing intensives fight. The same can be said about the last fight in the vault, I remember doing that as AST when they were in desperate need of a buff and it was exciting. I'm glad I'm not the only person that loves the thrill of it, I want more things like this.
