They do have a gap closer though

Its a PvE game, why is balance an issue in the content 95% of people posting here will be doing all the time? PvE balance only matters in the raid content, where its supposedly balanced around.
Since for some reason SE insists on making everything else a complete faceroll with any setup (hell, we 3-manned Sohm Al hard without a tank because of a leaver and did just fine with titan-egi tanking the last 2 thirds of the dungeon), who cares one bit about balance?
Anyone who is so bad that a supposed 10-15% DPS difference between Samurai and some other lolDPS matters even slightly should not be playing this game.
To be honest, this raid utility excuse becomes invalid when they added cross-role skills, it's not like they can't move any must have raid buff to the role (Caster, Ranged, Melee, Healer, Tank) instead of an individual class. I won't be surprised if they do that at some point.
I still plan to play SAM but this whole "we will do more damage because if the only thing we have" is a bad design choice.
maybe wait to see ingame before judge or act like everyone know what it will be or not?
I thought the preview of SAM was very underwhelming.
When people demand only SAM for dungeon speed runs than people will see the problem. When 99% of the server dps is SAM cause why play anything else than they will get their nerf but than SE will have the headache of trying to keep them balanced for raids. This is going to be terrible design choice.
I think people don't really understand "the problem":
- If SAM is that good we will notice compositions around him to max his damage, making everyone else kind of a "buff bot". This also "force" to bring other classes, like RDM, MNK and probably BRD.
- If SAM numbers don't justify having him GL HF for statics (like WHM, MNK and PAL during HW).
It won't really matter what the potencies are. Using the other DPS jobs as a gauge, I'd presume that over half of SAM mains will still be awful at it by the end of stormblood. For the first few months, I'd put that number at well over 3/4s.
