By that definition, if I /sit at the beginning of the raid and my group seven-mans it. It's perfectly acceptable, after all, they still cleared, right?

You misunderstood, sorry I probably didn't write it properly. I meant that the game would not let you switch to a lower item level weapon than the instance would allow.
Like if you had on a i260 weapon and queued for a duty (avg ilevel 230), went in, then tried to switch to an i110 weapon the game would give an error message like "the item level you are trying to equip is too low for this duty"
But if you tried to equip any weapon say between the ranges of i150-i275 (since those are all level 60 weapons) it would let you change it just fine. IMO i150 is a bit generous for an avg i230 instance but it isn't as big of a problem as someone wearing a level 50 weapon in level 60 content.
But since AP is directly tied to your main stat which is directly tied to your combat, it would change nothing for this particular situation.
On the other hand...it's not a big deal. In fact, I'm pretty sure you didn't realize after the clear, unless you take the time to check everybody's gear at the beginning of each duty.
And even if we weight the weapon a little more to calculate average ilvl, you'll see topics where "His body piece was really low" or "his head piece was out of date"
If someone sits at the beginning of the duty, will you go through it knowing that the person won't participate, get the clear and come here complaining ?
I think it'd be a good idea to make the mainhand iLvl requirement the same as the average gear iLvl requirement. That way, in this case you'd need to have a total average of i230 but also have at least a Lore/Nidhogg/Padjali weapon to enter.
They should also think about something similar for leveling dungeons, because I'm tired of being matched with GLDs who have level 10 wooden swords.
I agree, I seen problems like this before
There needs to be a weapon level requirement and sword and shield requirement for PLD, along with the average.
There is another way to do this, and that i to have stat weighs.
weapon should be x10
pants and body should be x5
head and feet should be x3
belt and each slot on the right should be x1
It is also too easy to pad the right with higher levels to help gimp left to pass. Following a weigh system fixes all these issues.
I think they might have been progressing that relic weapon and forgot to change it out for the raid
