I actually like this idea. Of course, if they did this they should adjust the amount of Guildmarks you get. Once you hit level 20 you get quite the amount of GM.Quote:

I thought this also at first but seems we will be getting class specific gear from the Job quests and some from the achievement system, I doubt Yoshi/the dev want to add too many options and types of gear at the moment.Quote:

What will be the point of guilds if guild marks are removed (not that they serve much use anyway)
Options?
a) let player's free companies (or individual players) have a stake in the guilds somehow or for their members to make their own guild (e.g. NPCs hired in a player financed guild sell items that arent available in NPCs in NPC guilds)
b) DOH: exchange guild marks for your own crafting station in your estate/home which has a Master++ crafting boon (i.e. better than the best guild support you can buy at the current guilds).
c) DOH: exchange guild marks for recipe pages to compile recipe books
d) DOL: guildmarks for treasure maps?
e) Require guildmarks as part of building up estates/homes. e.g. to build a garden beside your home you need 100k guild marks in botany? And you can have several versions of a garden, I, II, III, IV, etc, each requiring more guild marks to upgrade (again adding to a massive grind.lol.)
f) for DOW/DOM: allow guildmarks to be exchanged for beneficial status effects that last an hour or two (say permanent quicken for an hour, regen, refresh, attack up, etc; would be handy for dungeons)
g) for DOW/DOM (and perhaps DOL/DOH): as all skills,traits,abilities will be learnt through levelling, why not allow guild marks to be used at the guilds to purchase upgrades to skills/abilities/traits, for example:
- learn second wind at level 10 and you can spend guild marks to improve
a) its healing ability by 1% (and have upgrades I, II, III, IV) or
b) purchase an upgrade which adds MP regeneration to second wind
(i.e. you have boost the HP regen OR get a MP trait attached to it. If you go one route you cant go the other) (the only way to backtrack would be to Purge yourself through a npc (similar to materia purging) and you start again from scratch)).
- or even add out of the box upgrades to certain abilities so people will fiddle to make unique specs, like adding an en-drain upgrade to a weapon skill tailoring towards a dark knight type of play (not so out of the box but you get the idea, add options and let the player focus on routes to specialise)
- or other upgrades like less timer recast on things like featherfoot so puglists have more leeway to be evasion tanks
- or upgrade the type of damage done by a weaponskill, 100% slashing -> 105%, 110% slashing etc, basically a buff
Option G is basically implementing the Merit System from FF11 into FF14 and sounds quite fun in principle - it gives the player a chance to specialise to an extent making them happy with a goal to work towards, and keeps monthly subscriptions going keeping SE happy, win win.
Perhaps also change the method of acquisition of guildmarks, at the moment we only gain them through leve's, perhaps add a static bonus through normal xp parties or other activites -

When it comes to class traits they could change the aspect in with DoM/DoW is gained and instead make unique challenges add to leves to obtain x class guild mark to obtain traits that are related to those classes that could improve attributes or resistance and such but be used on any class. As it stands now it appears class traits are class only with no option to actually mix it up with other classes so adding things like VIT boost, resist poison or magic def up would be nice I think.
In terms of DoH I would say they should keep the books and as they simplified crafting have the books act as boost for x synth type. Basically for 1-40 let's say you have synth recipes with no requirements so at optimal lv for them you have 100% boost on them, using a book improves your success rate by 25%. However with recipes 41+ the books would be needed just to have 100% success rate otherwise your synth rate would be 50%. Basically the books could be a means of boosting old synth recipe skills while being required for higher level synths. Then later on more books could be added to improve the potency of recipes that required books while the even older synths get another boost while synthing, maybe to the point where you can get 100% guarantee of quantity increase for certain recipes.
With DoL they could prolly integrate the journal concept into opening up unique traits that gatherers can gain to improve their % of obtaining a material they are aiming for.
But ya, I'd just like to see GM be used as a "merit" like system to enhance players customization without having to gain levels to obtain that. -

I had hoped they would be co-opted into the new Job quest set-up; a way to acquire assorted pieces of Job equipment or consumables. It would have tied in with the fact that each class seems to offer one job only, so the items you could purchase were a way of the guild that spawned your job being able to recognise and support you through your effort.
But, well, I guess the plans don't go in that direction. The above was based on the idea that those stories may tie into the guilds. Also, regarding a post somewhere above, I don't think a long term use for them is what Yoshi-P has in mind. His design indicates that they are redundant since the thing they purchase (at least for battle classes) is now obtained through the levelling process, and the questing process he had to introduce. I can't see that anything else can really be done with them without either skewing the current economy worse than it is for a while or putting them towards some other feature that doesn't actually exist yet (and in some cases, won't for months/years). No point having them hang around for spending on something that is that far off.
Can't really use them to purchase services that gil covers - repairs, for example, or airships/chocobo rentals, without the inevitable reduction in gil from guildleves that would go with it. I can see that they currently offer more scope for non-battle classes, since they allow for consumable purchase, similar to Final Fantasy XI. Whatever solution they hit on will have to have something to say about those current systems.
...I rambled a bit. Short of some class-specific gear, I can't think of a realistic use for them other than what Yoshi-P has already outlined. -
