I started as an elf archer because... umm.... legolas?
After that, in the down time we had between patches I would try out some random classes here and there when I had nothing else to do... and then I discovered scholar and fell in love. It probably helps that I'm in the medical field in real life, so being a healer feels more natural.
So all the best gear goes to my scholar and I guess I'm a casual bard.

Picked monk because there was no sword or dual wield type dps. Got disappointed by ninja so stayed monk. I also don't find anything as fun as monk with having to move so much it really somewhat keeps the job interesting

It's a long complex story, but what settled me on Monk is the simplicity of the job. It has the fewest buttons, just have to worry about positionals and keeping Greased Lightning up.
I've avoided this job for so long because I hated the idea, but other classes have too many action skills for me to remember which is a shame since it killed my interest in DRG and MCH, and not even going to bother with NIN.
Also, I never got to play DPS anything in XI since the LS I was in had me as support or otherwise.
Hoping next DPS class will have the same simplicity, hell I'd like to see them implement skillchains for Samurai.

Its a long story but for me it was tank. With starting out with PLD, kind of felt like Tidus from FFX. Ultimately switched to DRK to get that Auron type character as he represents the ultimate bodyguard.
There are other classes that I like. SMN is my favorite DPS class and then ninja after that, but being a tank in this game is more fun than being a dps IMO.

For me i started out as a pug hoping to evolve into a monk but when ninja came out, i just had to switch cause jutsus. as for tank i kinda fell in love with dark knight. the move set was very easy to learn and this class helped me learn to appreciate tanks.

I have practically every ARR class and I like them all! Everything from a monk's simplicity to an arcanist's cerebralness is engaging but the class I love most is the white mage.
My word, what an enjoyable healer! The class's toolkit adapts to every situation, and graphically, the spells are beautiful. Well, not the stone spells, but how exciting can you really make throwing a rock? :D
In addition, the robes of a white mage are distinctive and classic. Everyone knows what you are when you put on those white and reds and it's been that way since the very first Final Fantasy game. While I may not wear them at the moment, believe me, I have kept those robes and plan on using them for my glamour when I hit 60.
On a more personal note, I find it deeply rewarding taking care of others. At heart, I am a healer and it's the role I am most at home in.
But that's not the only role I play! I learned to avoid healer burn out by mixing in the play of other roles. Currently, I'm spending some time with my tank character. She's a paladin and she really feels like a sword and board type of tank. She's tough and a lot of fun to play. I can't wait until I hit 40 and get shield oath!
Peace, love, and strawberry lemonade,

I have always loved healing and I love the White Mage robe designs from earlier Final Fantasy games and I was a White Mage in Final Fantasy XI ... so it just kinda clicked that I would main White Mage again.
And still love the job from the first day to now!

I actually came from an MMO where I was a DPS main. I've never really played healer, but for whatever reason I wanted to be a WHM when I came to FFXIV. It was the first class I leveled and the one that I found fit me the most.
When AST came out, I loved everything about it. I assumed it would take over my main. For a while it did, but I found myself missing some stuff from WHM. I switched between the two a lot before deciding that, while I liked AST, WHM holds a bigger place in my heart. So officially WHM is my main, but I play both equally (though I'm reconsidering working on my AST's i240 after I finish my WHM's >.<).

In any game, I love the idea of having a Pet/Companion with you, and while that'd put me under the assumption that I would've gone Summoner, I was overjoyed to see that there was a Pet/Summon type class that specialized in Healing. Being a Scholar just makes me feel right at home especially with all the buffs and shields you can throw out as opposed to something like a White Mage's straight up power heals.
While the Astrologian was one of the classes that piqued my interest in the game in the first place, Scholar has ended up being my favorite.

I'm absolutely terrible at it, but I like being able to multi task. So Archanist, setting my Pet to do one thing while I do something else.
