Stone, Sky, Sea and Me – What does this mean for tanks?

It's a combination of an attack dummy, parser and dps check
put on your old gear. Can you kill the BisEx dummy with i170 gear?
No? well.. there's room for improvement than.

Can't kill that A7S dummy with your current gear?
Well. than forget about mechanics.
Work on other improving other things first, before attempting your world's first clear

I think people are expecting way to much from this thing. Its meant to tell you if you are capable of keeping up with the required dps of the encounter. Its NOT meant to train tanks or healers in their roles, and teach you the encounters through random mechanics that don't need to be there.

Does it possibly need improving and could they add more and varied challenges to it? Sure, I'd like to see that. But if you want to learn basic tanking, healing, and AoE dodging mechanics, maybe you need to go to the Hall of the Novice instead.

Which is it, do you want it improved or not? If it is going to be improved, making it more relevant for more players would be one. And what good is it to keep tanks and healers in the dark about things beyond the orange AOE?

What does this even mean? XD A dummy is not gonna teach you party mechanics. The dummies are there to help you maximize the damage output of your class. As Nyght said, if people need "training" for things like AoEs, that's why the Hall of the Novice was implemented. Heck, you even have a lot of dungeons to go through before you reach endgame. WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN?

As someone said before, the dummies are there so that you can perfect your rotation. Once you have that down, now you have to implement that rotation to the actual fight. A dummy will not help you memorize a fight. Going to that fight will help you memorize it. However, knowing you can deal enough damage by that fight's standards will help you know if the only thing you have to perfect is your rhythm in that fight or if you actually need to learn more things about your class. The devs said it themselves: Tank and Healer SSS is there for fun.

Oh wait, I forgot you're not allowed to do fun things in this game, nvm.

I want to see it improved on, but not to the degree of what you want. I don't need orange circles, I just want a benchmark to know if you measure up to what you need to for encounters, and that is just what we have. Tanks and healers have different roles, and I think there should be a dps measurement for a tank in tank stance, there doesn't need to be a cooldown rotation for dummies, every fight is different, and again, I hope the hall of the novice will teach them about how to use their skills properly. The same goes for healers, a healing check dummy would be a nice challenge, but it doesn't show much of anything, excpet that the healer is geared well enough to keep people alive, which you could just tell by looking at their gear.

Unless you're SCH, you never have the chance to sit there and smash on the boss for 3 minutes. Specific conditions must be met for WHM/AST to DPS and those will change from fight to fight, which is impossible to replicate on a normal training dummy. So yeah, doesn't really work for WHM/AST.

What good is it to make a guide, in game , to spell out every mechanic for every encounter before anyone actually goes and attempt it.
