Developers: Why are you "limiting" FFXIV to the PS3 as you limited FF11 to the PS2?

Porting the game to PS3 is just not possible at the current stage. The graphics are too high, the areas too big.. seamless aswell. The engine, maps ... game will have to be "optimized" for the ps3. Will have to be lowered in order for 4 year old hardware to play the same game.
Look at KOTR comming out on PC ONLY. Why not PS3? Because of too many limitations on the game, ps3 simply would not be able to handle it. I am not talking about the graphics engine either, im talking about the WHOLE GAME. Thats not related to the size of harddrive either. Old Hardware have mannny other limitations.

The fact of the matter is, the PS3 will limit the potential of the game on PC.
SE did not decide to port the game in order to make it a BETTER game. The ONLY reason for the decision is $$$.

The current graphics engine is Beautiful.. one of the best ive seen. Very modern, requireing a fast cpu. For those of us that have one, its a really nice.
I guerentee the new "optimised" graphics engine will not be so nice. No longer being modern, because of the LIMITATIONS 4 year old PS3 hardware are putting on it.
Throw seamless out the window aswell. Smaller areas. Less detail.

I did not spend 1000$'s of dollars, to play a game that a 300$ console can aswell.

Ive got an idea for SE. Let's buy a really nice ferrari, then put a 300$ set of tires on it.

Don't get me wrong I am sure the game will be much better in two years when the port. But that's because of all the other changes they are making to the game. For us PC gamers, the fact that they're porting the game to PS3 is bad news. Don't be fooled by the flowery reasons and excuses. Just look at the $$$ bills in their eyes.

And yet some smarties here think i am trolling. Why port the "NEW 2012" game on a 5year old SYSTEM?

And I agree with you they just want the extra $$$$ to sell a product to the console market

Again man, expansion size has nothing at all to do with what system it runs on. You just really don't know what you are talking about. Graphic enhancements could have been done on the PC version while the PS2 and 360 versions stayed the same. It has nothing to do with one another other than how it was designed from the get go.

There is significantly more in XI than there is in most other MMOs and it rivals WoW for content which is PC only. Content wise it makes absolutely no difference. Graphically it does, but not in terms of content.

Hmm why port a 2012 game to a current leading console? Maybe millions of people to gain subscriptions from? IDK about you all but I'd like to see more than 2 other people standing at a camp. Yes it limits things slightly, but well worth it for people to play with.

And you would be wrong. The comparison between the PS3 and the PS2 doesn't hold. The PS2 was an extremely limited console compared to PCs of the same age, the PS3 is much less limited compared to PCs.

This without mentioning the fact that the PS3 is nowhere near the end of it's lifetime. CCP is currently developing DUST 514 for it and it will be released just a few months before FFXIV. They already said that when the PS3 will become obsolete, they'll simply update the game for the PS4.

Guess what? Square Enix can do the same (and they have WAY more resources than CCP does).

So no. It's that simple. There's no mistake in sight. The PS3 launch is precisely what will give this game a much more solid chance of being successful. Speaking against it is simply an exercise of PC elitism that hold no ground in reality, and I say this as a dedicated PC gamer.

Did the OP also not see that in one of the PDF's it specifically said there will be a high-resolution version for top-end PCs with graphics that XIV originally intended to have along with graphical options to curb the memory requirements down to "PS3 and equivalently equipped PCs"

I see XIV taking a completely different route than XI. XI limited itself to the PS2 standards while XIV is being designed as a high quality PC MMO while taking the appropriate steps so that consoles and low-end PCs can also enjoy the game.

The game was always planned to be released on the PS3 since its inception, I failed to see how you can interpret that as a lolquickmoneygrab. Frankly, without a PS3 launch, I don't see FF14 ever really get off the ground, even with 2.0 relaunch.

And again, you would be wrong. Games can be updates to consoles of the following generation. It's an opportunity to get a ton of new subscribers, which is, by definition, a statistically soound way to get a sizable number of long time subscribers.
