It was a fun class, that even if I didn't preform well, it provided satisfying feedback. Sure I might not have been the best, but I still felt good, it fulfilled that fantasy of being a powerful mage. I'm not talking about a numbers issue, but something fuzzier like 'fun' or 'fulfilling a class fantasy'. Those are impossible to quantify.

In this game, Drg with BotD is the best comparison. However, it is much easier to keep up. It's just as stupid as when it falls down, but not using Geirskogul is nowhere near the dps loss that not using Enochian, or losing Astral Fire or missing an Enochian refresh is.

You have the option of not using enochian if it's that off putting to you. Same deal as BRD with wm.

I do so much less dps, my presence in the party is a detriment. I may as well not even play.

If you're doing so much less dps without enochian or wm that it's a detriment to the party in a non raid setting, then maybe you're not as good as you think you are =\

The thing with BLM now is that you really do need to know the fight well in order to do truly shine because you already know the mechanics. By knowing them you can then pre plan what to do.

I personally like how I am able make use of many of my abilities. I have to think and plan which spells I have to use based on the amount left at my timer(s) I find myself using swiftcast in order to make Ice 4.

I'm average at best. I've never said I was good. Isn't not using Enochian basically 40% damage loss anyway? I don't think even...whoever the best blms in this game are would do decent damage without it.

It is first off a straight 5% damage loss, because Enochian is a straight up 5% damage gain.

Multiplier: 1.05

Without Enochian, you're on the 2.0 rotation of: Keep thunder rolling, fire, use procs, fill ice stance with a spell if mana ticks late.
This works very similar to 3.0 of: Keep stacks up, refresh thunder in ice, use thundercloud procs, get 4x Fire4s.

Enochian removes a large amount of RNG when it comes to optimizing Black Mage damage, but it does this at the cost of rigidity.

I believe the actual drop is closer to 20-25%

Relatively speaking. You have to be doing extremely bad to be an active detriment to your party as far as dps is concerned (and I mean not maintaining greased lightning, alternating between fire/ice spells bad). Even without 3.0 abilties you're well capable of pulling respectable dps just by doing the basic functions of the job.

I believe Kailii meant if she stuck with the 2.0 rotation, as you suggested, she would be a detriment to her party, which is true. When it comes to DPS checks, taking out adds that need to die quickly, bosses etc... using the Enochian rotation is mandatory. That is the basic function of the job. Your suggestion that she not use it is really bad advice.

By just doing the 2.0 ST rotation, you may be able to clear some of the content if the other party members are really good, but that's only because they would basically be carrying you.

2.x rotation is plenty good for PUG content; I used is quite a bit for the first few runs of Alex normal, dungeons, and Void Ark. The stuff with dps checks isn't automatic or easy for any job, and no dps will be at max potential the first few runs. Once you learn the fights, you can incorporate Enochain into them.
