Don't feel the need to defend yourself, what you have already said previously makes sense, people are just trying to get a rise out of you.

That's fair. Me, I'm the opposite - I'd choose this over desynth all, since I don't craft at all and that change very likely wouldn't effect me. Heck, I haven't been playing for long and only recently learned what desynthesis even is.
My question is this: why not both? I'm sure they'd both help people out. They're both quality of life changes.
Besides, it's not really about need. It's about looking at a feature saying hey, I think this would be a nice change to make.
Server Limitations!
the thing is that most people use the gear set as whole. it's not like FFXI you constantly change between elemental staffs, so lots other damaged items in the inventory or weapon armory, and you need them within 30secs cus the duty finder timer is ticking. There are situations that I don't want to repair the gears in my inventory which I want to desynth/ convert later but I forgot at certain moment.
It's a good function to have but most won't use it. most people will still just repair the job's current equipped set armor set as a whole, which is the current "repair all" will do.
Every single new player I have spoken to has asked why this feature doesn't already exist when they first start repairing gear and I haven't had an answer for them.
I carry around materials for repairing my own gear in case I ever get caught short, but nonetheless some of us just like to have everything repaired at all times. It would be more convenient to have the option to do this than to have to go through all the categories; heck there's even precedent. The GC turn-in screen has the option to filter your Expert Delivery stuff to be everything or just a subset of all of the stuff you're holding (and it remembers the setting). It doesn't even have to be shown in the list, just add a button somewhere at the bottom. "Repair All Gear" "Repair all of the gear in your Armoury Chest and Inventory? This will cost x gil" "Yes/No". Those who like the current menu are happy, those who just want to be able to repair everything when they've been messing around on multiple jobs are happy.
