That seems to be the common consensus among everyone so far. The custom stats really set the old relic apart from any of the stock weapons, including raid ones. In fact, the stat bonuses given with Zeta were so good (if you did yours right) that I found myself using my zeta all the way up to lvl 56-57 just because the secondary stats I had on it was better than the weapons found in game. I don't think I was alone in that, because I often saw Zeta weapons in dungeons as high as the Vault.

I honestly would not even want to hear about another Relic, lol.
Stat carry over would be awesome, and perhaps just me but some sort of glow control of sorts or option to choose glow color? :D
And it is true for certain classes that Zeta was still best until around level 57

Please remove RNG.

If I have to spend two hours every single day for three months advancing my weapon, so be it. As long as I don't have to spend a week getting irritated that others have gotten twice as many and I have nothing to show for it after days of attempts.

The idea was to have more trials like chimera or hydra, but I was thinking, "why do they have to be 8man, why can't we have solo trials, much like in job quest." this would make things intresting, give people what they want, and actually maybe even bring some level of difficulty to actually getting a relic.

Glow colour would be cool lol. The only reason I even cared about appearance is because I hated the Drg weapon shape up until Zeta. It was so ugly, and then they made it worse by making it glow purple even though it's base colour was blue O_o. The Zeta (Black and Red) looked much better.

And yes. It depended on what stats you put on your relic, but the custom secondary stats out preformed a LARGE number of normal weapons that were supposed to be stronger. There was a bit of a trade off, though. For example, Higher level had a slightly stronger dmg per second rating or, in the case of PLD shields, Block strength and Block rate were slightly higher in weapons that had a higher ilvl, but only by a minuscule amount.

To put that in perspective, the physical attack between Excalibur Zeta (ilvl 130) and Baldur Sword(ilvl 160) is 58 and 63 respectively. That's a difference of a measly 5 pts of physical attack delivered every 2 1/2 seconds, roughly. Worse yet, Baldur Sword is a lvl 60 req sword. Level cap to Level cap, there was barely a difference in terms of stats gained. Compared to the Zeta, it was pitiful.

To give you an idea, on my PLD, I basically stacked pure DET (Max) and CRIT (High, but I split a few points) across sword and board. Despite finding a couple of weapons that had stronger auto attacks/bock/block rates between levels when I got to lvl 57 (a lot of weapons below those levels were inferior even in these stats) it wasn't until lvl 57 that I found a weapon that FINALLY beat my zeta in Determination, barely. The plus stats I gained off of the higher ilvl weapon came at a cost. Instead of having a 2nd, useful, secondary stat like CRIT, I ended up with a totally useless stat, Parry.

All in all, My Zeta stat allocation was still preferable, but I needed the higher ilvl for dungeon requirements. If it wasn't for the ilvl req, I probably would have used my zeta until getting the Doman gear, because that's the first set of gear that has any distinct jumps in stats over Zeta.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I actually gave up on my relic for a long time during the ATMA stage, because I had a FC mate who got 5 of the stupid things in as few days, but after a MONTH of grinding FATES in the same zone for hours on end I had one. With that drop rate, I wasn't keen on spending a year just to get all my ATMA, so I flipped table and gave up. I think the only reason I even went back to it was because another FC mate was doing it and needed company. I stuck it out... but then came Zeta drops... that very nearly made me drop this game entirely. NO ONE should have to do over 70 runs of a dungeon just to get their drop. That's lunacy.

I agree with this too. I'd much rather have difficulty in combat rather than an endless grind that depends solely on luck. Skill should be more important.

I know that the reason they add retro plays of dungeons and trials is a sad attempt at keeping ques alive, and that's fine, but forcing players to grind it out for so long with NO VARIETY is stupid. There should be instanced battles, mob hunts, etc. Anything to break up the sheer boredom of running the same thing over and over and over...

Alright, I'm gonna list what we've got so far. I apologize for the wall of text, but I'm gonna break it down in three stages. The bold parts are the important bits. Feel free to pick out my two cents on it and contribute where you see fit. Agree, disagree, add to it or take away. Let's get our list of demands for when we hold an SE employee hostage.

For the weapon:

1. Return of the custom Statistics!

I don't think anyone is arguing that this is the single most requested thing to return to the new relic.

2. SE honours their Zeta compensation promise.

Most people want their old stats to carry over to the new relic, but I'm not sure how this would happen. The first thing that comes to mind is using the old relic as the base for the new, as we did with Zodiac. That sounds fine on paper, but the problem would be the players who didn't do their original Zeta. Those players would have no base to start on... Which is probably why SE stated that the New Relic will not be tied to the Old. An alternative would be giving the Zeta players the ability to allocate their new relic stats with no/or less of a penalty than fresh players. Ie: if we need to use materia to gain new stats for our new weapons, Zeta players can simply skip that part and allocate their stats for free or at a diminished cost. Maybe they'll give us tokens we can exchange for Materia of our choosing from a Vendor, instead of stiffing the price on the MB.

3. Customization options / Zodiac theme

This one is a little outlandish. The idea put forward was that, like airship construction, we could have a workshop dedicated to customizing the shape of our weapon by trading out pre-rendered designs. Ie: You want this hilt with this blade, in this colour...etc. It's not likely that this will ever be a thing; however, I do think that we should, AT THE VERY LEAST, be able to customize the colour of the weapon or the colour of the glow of the weapon (if the new weapon even glows at all). Let's face it, some of us got shafted with some ugly colour combinations that just didn't suit us.

Also, personally, I would like the new Relic to better reflect the Zodiac theme. Give us shapes and designs that reflect that in some way.

The Quest:

1. LESS OR NO RNG.

Alright, so no RNG is not likely, but at the very least it should be reduced or capped in some way. The old RNG system was awful, not fun, UNFAIR to a lot of players (especially those of us who did not have all day to grind out one thing over and over or are just plain unlucky), and was actually really bad for the gameplay. Each stage of RNG for the old relic seemed to actively try and get the players to HATE different parts of the game. ATMA made us never want to do FATES again. Zodiac drops made some of us swear off specific dungeons FOREVER (I, personally, will NEVER willingly go into DD again. I’ve even debated outright leaving when I get it as a low roll dungeon. Over 70 runs of Zodiac farming is what destroyed that dungeon in my mind.

The point is that RNG without limits is ridiculous. It’s not hard or challenging, in terms of gameplay. It takes almost no skill. It’s all luck, and, despite what SE seems to think, some of us are just plain unlucky. It’s a real thing. We don’t want to be reminded of it in a game. Therefore, any RNG that is placed in the new relic quest should be either hard capped at a certain number of runs (Ie: if you don’t get your drop by 100 runs, you get it by default), OR scaled with a rising % (Ie: Each run of the farmed content increases your odds to get your drop by, let’s say, 1% each run. This basically results in a hard cap as well, but they could tweak it accordingly).

2. More combat, less grind.

The fact is that not all of us like crafting. We like actually playing the game, not just sitting in a corner and nodding off while our Avatar auto pilots 100 nuggets or whatever. We like fighting. That is, in fact, why we want the new relic weapon. We combat nuts want a supercharged weapon so we can do combat better, stronger, and faster than people less committed to getting into combat. Let’s take this moment to remind SE that this is a WEAPON we are making here, not a knitting needle.

Now, for those of us who do not like crafting, we can’t complete the crafting requirements for our weapons by ourselves. We have to pay, and since this games economy is run by the crafting community, it’s not easy for us to scrape together the MILLIONS of Gill we needed to finish the Relic. On top of the already unfair RNG, this was another stain on the relic quest. Cut it.

We want rewards for doing challenges, hunts, Trials, Raids, Dungeons, instanced battles, and things that require combat prowess and skill to get through, not just an absurd amount of saintly patience or the personal checking account of Bill Gates. What’s more, we want a variety of these things to do, not just the same dungeon over and over until we want to quit or pull our hair out.

3. More Lore.

Apparently, we Relic people were actually interested in the story of the original relic holders and the implied connections they had to the Zodiac Braves. Give us more. This would be good for the progression through the different steps of the new relic as well. If the story is there, people are inclined to finish individual steps of the quest to find out more of the story, instead of viewing the whole thing as one big grind.
Also, make the story compelling. Do not half-ass this. Cutscenes should be a reward, not just something we want to skip through and read the cliff notes later.

The Lore:

This is an obscure one and touched on in the last list, but people seem to have requests about it, myself included.

1. Original Relic Owners / Zodiac Braves / Trials:

The last Relic quest touched on this story line, and gave us books that supposedly detailed the tasks of these talented warriors, but we don’t really know much about the original owners of the weapons or the true connection to the zodiac signs. Give us some details and incorporate them into the quest somehow. The original Relic had us merely simulate the fights the original Relic holders did. We basically do an imitation, but not the genuine oracle. That’s just not as cool… Give us challenges that are up to snuff. Personally, I want to fight a Lucavi, but that’s just me.

2. Expansion on the Zeta lore.

The Zeta relic, supposedly, has its own mind and consciousness…and that’s it. We worked our asses off to build this thing a personality only to have it glow. I was personally hoping for a little more out of that plot point than that.
