Making a premade mode frontline and banning them from the current mode would also keep the premades from bullying the pugs that they love to so much but alas unless they combine the region data centers for pvp I am not sure the already miniscule pvp population can survive further dissolution.
I'm not particularly worried about Pre made groups. That's 8 people (maybe, if they managed to get a full group) out of 24. They're definitely a force to be reckoned with, no doubt, but they don't own the field and are far from unbeatable. Besides, 9 times out of 10, the 16 other people tend to screw over the pre-made group more often than the Pre-made wins the match. It's only when all 24 players are on the same page that things can get a little one sided, but, even then, I wouldn't call this bullying. Players with the forethought to come prepared to a fight that they know they're getting into should not be punished for being prudent in their planing.
I find this bizarre. I hear a lot of people on the forums complaining about Adders having a crappy winning record, but, in my experience, they win way more often than people give them credit for. Just last night, I swear, Adders won every second match at least... I guess it's possible that I'm being pit against the only "good" adders group out there, but I find that equally hard to believe. It's like I've fallen into a little pocket of ques that no one else is a part of or something @_@
Are the grand companies about equal in size among the player base? In my guild during launch I noticed I was the ONLY member of the entire guild that did not choose the Gridanian company... I've not checked with current guild (the old guild folded when everybody, self included, left the game. When I got back I discovered none of them had returned, and moved on). If there is notable GC imbalance, they need to start randomizing the matches instead of basing them on your GC.
Are the queues tied to level or gear rankings? Guild Wars 2 fixes its queues for PvP by having everyone who enters a match equalized. This is actually done that PvP there is actually about skill, and nothing else. But it has the side effect of very very very fast queues.
Guild Wars 1 had it even better - random matches - the first 8 people to queue got randomly assigned as 4 to one side and 4 to the other, equalized in gear and level, and tossed in. Queues were usually very quick - the game was a bit clunkier than modern designs though so not perfect (you essentially all entered a waiting area together and then begged the nearby guys to hit the button to queue, and once 8 of you had hit it - zap and in you went, it lacked a global aspect - each arena map had a different queueing zone, and the queue was only for those people in the same instance of that zone as you... so... they had one idea right but other ideas wrong because of 2005 limited budget tech).
Why not throw us a bone and have one que with no grand companies, no ilvl, and pugs beware. Just fill 24 24 24 then start the next group. No rank no gear score nothing just filled matches as people que. If people got kills, marks and xp alot of people may forgo the grand company achievement. This is if the system is so screwed they can't fix it like inventory or housing.
It's great that they acknowledged the GC issue in the live letter, but queues are still broken and really need resolution. My PVP roulette queue hit 70 minutes tonight. I reset it and am now sitting at 45 minutes. I haven't had a single successful queue since I've gotten home from work 3 hours ago. Meanwhile, someone in my GC LS queued and had a 1 minute pop. Another had a 15 minute queue. Someone else is currently at 30 minutes. The queues are not functioning properly.
