Crafting (and more recently gathering) are the ONLY reason why I'm still playing this game. I found getting archer to 50 utterly joyless and utterly boring but recognize the practicality of having at least 1 combat job at 50 (and getting everything else to at least 36).
I tried poking at Lancer again recently and just found myself going 'screw this'.
The only things I've really enjoyed in this game has been the crafting and gathering.
i hear that the male choco's we are getting now are just the beginning and in the future they will have choco breeding. i also hear that all the crafters have all the gil. so if trading is your thing and not fighting. wait and buy a choco.
I dunno. To me it always seemed like the primary goals where always battle based and all the crafting and gathering was to serve as a secondary goal to support the primary goal.
Not that there's really anything wrong with it. I'm more curious if anything so I appologise if I'm coming of as blunt or abrasive.
Regardless of your position on the matter, you'd be hard pressed to argue that more people log into an MMO for the crafting than log in to kick monster butt. Yoshida-san has probably put the priority on making battle related content for just this reason.
The Materia system is pretty much targeted at crafters. It's not "content", per se, but it is a rather substantial investment in the non-battle classes.
I agree, as a gatherer, there could be more content, especially content of a social nature, but I also acknowledge that appealing to the greater proportion of the player base is important. Getting their content out the door in a timely manner is also important. I'm not sure if I'd want them to hold everyone else back just because I couldn't buy a chocobo as a pure non combat player. I'd still want to harass them about making it possible, though, in the next patch.
How is adding Grand Company content for Crafters and Gathers holding everyone else back? Are you thinking that SE can't implement both?
Crafting during first 3 months was epic, when there was huge competition in the market.
It's kind of same-old, same-old now though.
There's just nothing to really do anymore, both combat-wise and crafting-wise anymore. I can't remember the last time crafters had something new to do.
