I think this logic is great for PF, but not so much for DF. I think that this logic is honestly part of the reason people struggled so much with Steps of Faith. Veteran players didn't want to take 10 minutes teaching you while you wiped them repeatedly, new players who were stubborn not listening/not wanting to learn because "I do waht I want."
I don't think there's anything wrong with your logic, but I do think that you should be considerate in terms of clearing content. ^_^ Still, I will never ask you to skip a CS, that is where I draw the line (Because to me, the dungouns attatched to a CS are done specifically for those CS's... Our current meta has that as a trial and a 4-man dungoun, whcih imo is great that they de-coupled it from 8 man content because the original main scenario roulette was aweful.)
I honestly think your logic of "I'll do what I want" is toxic, but I know you've also probably been yelled at for not doing it, and that's not acceptable either.
