Summoner gets no new pets in expansion

If we're doing street cred, I mained SMN from Chains up through the last expansion. You never needed a Mythic. It didn't do poorly. Not all fights are fair (ask a PUP or BST or RDM or RNG or you get the idea). Comparing it to dedicated DD is as unfair as comparing SCH DPS to SMN DPS.

And before anyone says anything, I'm well aware XIV isn't XI.

It wasn't cred, it was "I experienced the games meta and kept up with and made very minor additions to the games theory crafting community". Summoner had no place in any endgame content until Alexander was released. Even then its primary use was for burning down Absolute Virtue. Because literally nothing else was so powerful that Alexander was necessary.

And it is a fair comparison. Once Alexander was used, all Summoner has to it's name in Blood Pacts and weak avatar auto-attacks for damage. It lost to every other damage dealing job in every single multi-man fight because either the job itself (WAR/DRK/MNK/DRG/BLM/THF/DNC/NIN/RNG) was stronger or the job + pet (PUP/BST/DRG) was stronger than just the pet (SMN).

Main SMN and happy they did not waste my new spell on lame pets that i'm only going to use A for PVE and B for PVP. So yes thank you SE for making the right choice and making the SMN part better before you work on the Egi part.

I was being cheeky, but in your words, I experienced not just the game's meta, but summoner's meta and theorycrafting. The worth of a job shouldn't be measured by its DPS alone.

It's damage was good enough for most content, easily 80-90% of your average dedicated DD if done right. And it's real strengths were that its pet was a true proxy and it had a wide variety of damage types and support pacts.

If people want FFXI summoner- umm go play ff11 its still there.. i checked out videos of it ..all the summer is doing is standing there as the summon attacks- granted that the summons were huge- the overall job looked boring as hell. FF14 is much better and more to do- only thing is making some cosmetic changes to summons which Yoshi addressed. so its a huge win for summoners. I can't wait to level up my SMN for my alt.

Glossing over the first post in this thread, the direction of the discussion (if you can call it that) to be made here was clear, and yet people still took the bait. Can we please, please just wait until after Heavesward before we try to talk about the summoner job?

I've started playing SMN again recently (using Ifrit on Obey) and I have to say, I'm enjoying it. SMN is fine as is. Asking it to make pets appear and disappear or whatever is just asking for a BLM but with flashier attacks.

Also, as someone pointed out earlier, SMN can not have bigger/more defined pets/actual Primal summon. Imagine if one summoned a full-sized Ifrit during any Binding Coil Turns. T6, you'd have no idea who you were tethered to. T9, you wouldn't be able to see Meteor, Divebomb, etc markers at all. T10, charge marker or tethers. T11, tethers not on tanks, etc etc. FFXI can have full sized summons because FFXI doesn't use the same kind of battle mechanics as FFXIV.

SMN is fine as it is. If you don't like it, play as a different Job. BLM might not summon things, but it's as close as you're gonna get to the "classic" Summoner.

Back into topic: I played SMN back in the XI and in this game is actually my main class (and only for the most part). I have the feel that you guys have had to play SMN back in the day to understand why there is so many users crying about the current class in XIV. It's true, the partys wanted us mostly to heal and never call any primal, but that was the comunitys problem, not a class issue. Jugding from experience i can say by my point of view where the problem is with this version of a Summoner.

"Interaction"

They made in this game summoner as a Pet Class, you cant deny that. As everyone knows, the Damage of the class is done with the DoT, Pet and our Ruin's (Fester, Bane, you get my point.) I have no time now to make you a comparasion within the skills between the 2 pets back in XI and now in XIV, i can say they where better done by miles. They didnt have a "role", they had theyr attacks and buffs (a wide variety and a huge ones) and the control was fine. In XIV, if i want my Ifrit to stun someone in time first i must pray for it to not wait 1 or 2 seconds for him to make the move, even if he does it in the end. Worst, it happens a lot with Enkindle. I buff myself, use the skill... And i must use it nearly 5 more times because the pet doesnt want to use it.

I, as a Summoner, i am not asking "more pets". Do i want more Egis? Yes, but right now the problem with the class is the interaction and utility of each Egi. Back in the day you had every use for each skill. Here? You will be using mostly 2 skills with garuda (1 of them being esential) and most of the players will leave Ifrit with the automatic mode. For now, there is not that "feeling" fo interaction between the Summoner and his allies. That being said, i am waiting for the expansion to judge the new changes before talking about them.
