Referring to people by their class/job

Since we are mostly talking about suggesting play adjustments, I will use names and jobs in different situations. Admittedly its mostly reflexive and unconciuos.

When someone is playing a role that has a specific job to do for a boss fight or a group of trash, I will use the job. So, like in old-school WP runs I would start pulling a ton of mobs after the second boss and say, "BLM LB at top of stairs."

When someone is just playing horribly (terrible rotation, not hold enmity as tank, bad healer stuff), I will use the name. Since it is their issue, not the job's.

When I do pick up raids for new content and I am using VOIP, I will only use the person's actual name after I get to know them a little bit. If I am running with 4 people from my static and 3 people from a different static that I don't really know, I just don't have the confidence to know that I am getting their name correct with their voice. So I will say things like "DRG take that orb, I'll back off."

Tip: You can auto-enter to someone's name by targeting them and using <t>.

I always call by name (or shortened name), unless I'm explaining job-specific mechanics.

Context, context~

I call people by their job unless I know them or there are multiple of their job.

It's much easier to look at the icon and type 3 letters during a fight than fumbling with trying to type out a (often long and complicated) name.

I also use initials on party list. *shrug*

Unless talking about roles, I try to use names/shortened/nicknames when talking to the party. Gives the party a more friendly atmosphere...most of the time.

I am as polite as I can be in dungeons, but will say something like "melee LB please" or "Healer, the tank is new. Could you please help by watching your own aggro?" JP parties will use the job label for instructions. I don't have any problem with this.

Depends. If it's in the middle of a fight, it's no big deal; we have more important things to worry about than a name. If it's general instructions for roles, no big deal either. Otherwise I find it definitely demeaning, but I don't see it often and hardly respond to the people that won't take a second to treat me as more than an NPC.

I'll call you by name if we have time, but if someones screws up in the middle of the fight I have other things to do that type your name, drg or brd works just as well.

Probably would find it offensive if slip ups are happening and someone refers to you as your job... kinda reaffirming to you *what* your job is and that you need to do it better. However in almost every circumstance that person ends up eating their words so i just laugh them off.

if you are called by your job and dont like it, you always have the choice not to listen to it, and if you are called out, you can innocently say if it was you that the question/mention/insult was directed to...I do that at times...is just fun to suddenly feel the silence LOL

small story :

Communication using jobs as a name can be confusing,

T5, SCH and WHM,

WHM says to SCH, that he will take care of the MT, so SCH focus on OT, goes well, we wipe, instruction stands right ? MT change, aka prvious MT becomes OT, but WHM still takes scare of MT since nothing was said otherwise...only the WHM wanted to say that he would take care of player X who happened to play the MT, so obviously since player X changed from MT to OT, the WHM would take care of OT now..guess what...MT died...there was a moment of dumbness there from WHM part, when he realized that using the name would have been ...a better choice
