SE have any plans to keep White mages from being extinct?

Please don't misunderstand me. I wasn't insulting WHM (they're actually my preferred and favorite healer -- my secondary job). I was trying to explain how they are a little bit different from SCH. Obviously, good WHM must know what's coming, especially in a situation where they must precast SS and have Cure II hit right after a hard-hitting ability. I was simply explaining the difference between a mitigation job and a straight healing job. Stoneskin is WHM's only mitigation (if you don't count Protect). The rest is straight heals and regen. Scholar's strength, on the other hand, is mitigation... adloq, succor, sacred soil. WHM and SCH play off each other in a perfect balance, although they are also made in such a way that you could get away with two of either if you REALLY want to (in MOST fights).

Again, where will astrologist fit into this equation?

I almost always prefer to have a White Mage healing alongside of me. For example, I ran shiva today with some friends. The DF White Mage just barely met the requirements to get in. This does not make him bad, but it did hurt his heals by quite a bit. When a DF member ran into me with an overlapping Hailstorm it became apparent his heals were not cutting it. Rather than voting abandon and giving up I had the group stop for a few minutes and we worked out a plan. I told him to cover the main tank at all times and toss in party heals when we were taking massive damage. In my opinion Scholars are much better suited to party healing because of our mitigation and faster healing capabilities. He just needed to toss me a medica II during whiteout to aid my succor and Rouse/Last Whisper. If it had been me and an under-geared Scholar it would have been much harder to achieve the same thing.

This person made a troll post to pit us WHM's against our SCH friends. Please don't let him win. As a career WHM, I love my SCH sisters. <3

In my other post I mentioned Main healers and supportive healers. Popular speculations would be that Astrologians would be buffing(????) healers - Where ever that idea came from, but I'll refrain myself from joining this wild goose chase and wet dreams about how astrologian will be and what they will get.

However, if we were to assume that astrologian would be a healer with buffing and/or debuffing kit, aside from their healing kit, they're most likely fit to be a supportive healer rather than a main healer. Although, with said skill kit, an astrologian could be a main healer and have a scholar be the supportive healer, it will most likely come at the cost of -something-. Just like how a main healer scholar loses out on DPS while a supportive healer dishes out more.

I prefer the WHM for her simplicity, and predictability. She is the walking Isreali Bandage (google it).

The SCH is a fine class; she's got some Neosporin, sunscreen, a bit of Valtrex, even a little band-aid dispencer that follows her wherever she goes. She's the school nurse.

I <3 when I end up paired with a SCH. I prefer it over two WHMs, in all honesty.

There's no info on AST skills so there's no point to assume (whether it was intended to assume this, or just mis-worded/misinterpretted) that WHM will become useless.
For all we know, AST could be more about damage reflection (enemy hits 200 phys damage, buffed player receives 120, monster auto-receives 80, for ex) with a healing skill or two... but that's also just an idea. Who's to say it's shields or burst healing? o_O
Maybe it's some healing skills but with reflection/mitigation skills that work like NIN mudras.... but using the cards (would kinda suck to do on the fly, though). It could be none of the above or all of the above. Who knows!
Discussion is one thing, but assumption is another :\

I am mainly going by with what they did with the ninja. In past mmo's and other examples we can go by new classes in the mmo genre has always come out over balanced. The hardest raids at the moment only accomodates two healer slots and unless the number is up to 3 healer and 3 tanks for the alexander raids then a job that was made around the 1.0 model feels like it will be the weakest link which is the white mage.

I am all for white mage having the strongest pure healing in the game but if the Astrologian is to have some appeal it will have to provide something that will make it wanted for the high end raiders and as I previously stated unless they altered raid composition to provide spots for 3 healers then that means one job will be left in the dust. And it is sure not appearing to be scholar at the moment.

You clearly outlined a scenario where it's the gear not the job being a problem. To say that that SCH AoE is superior to WHM just shows a gross lack of understanding of the class. I play both and my medicas with a i110 weapon heals for nearly 2k, my SCH with i125 does (600-900)x2. Only on a crit does succor come anywhere near a medica, which also has the added bonus of not losing half it's effectiveness by being cast way too early or a fraction of a second too late.

Medica heals about 1100 in i120ish gear. Same with Succor in total.
