Idea against Undercutting at the Marketboard (The next.. )

theres tons of reasons people undercut

1, mayb they wanna sell somethin fast
2. need fast money
3. mayb they think the prices are unreasonable so they sell for what they think is decent price

afterall its up to the seller to decide what he wants to sell for not just look at the marketboard n think well every1 is sellin for that price so i should aswell

The first two you listed are the same reason worded differently.

I agree that the seller picks the price. However, undercutting for 1 gil, which I'm assuming is what most complaints are about, serves no purpose other than putting you item at the top of the list. It's a flaw in the design of MMO market boards because it encourages people that market board camp and just continue refreshing their items to be the top. They may as well just give the retainer an option to repost your wares down to a fixed minimum value. I mean that is effectively what MB campers are doing.

Undercutting is fine if to drives prices toward equilibrium, but when people are undercutting by 1 gil it's doing this in the slowest most tedious way possible.

In this post OP has stated below clearly.
"I'm not talking the 17.000 to 16.999 or 16.500; Hell even 13.000..
No I'm talking about dropping from 17.000 down to 10.000 or even lower."

I have read many posts that explicitly mentioned that they had no problem will 1 gil undercutting, but not satisfied some sellers did BIG undercut.
Regarding this system, eventually buyers would like to have a sorting function,
and ultimately buyers want to have the best price on top,
I think it is a good design for buyers, especially ARR has many part-time players, they need open price and default on the cheapest listing. ^^;

'dont know why ppl undercut by 1 cause some1 else is gonna do it.. i dropped 2 sprite hats 1st day of patch only 1 on market board was 12m i thought was insanely overpriced and posted both for 5m each undercuttin by bigger amounts reduces some1 else undercutting ya by 1 gil lol

Law of supply. If it's easy to acquire, then the price would drop and fast.

Ehcatl Sealants are easy to acquire and those were 350k on my server for months. They've only recently started tanking.

Being top-paged or at least mid-paged is the idea behind a lot of my undercuts. Most people only scroll down to look for HQ items. If you are selling bulk low to mid quality items on a consistent basis on the market board, you need to do this or watch your inventory go stagnant.

Personally, I think undercutting by 1 gil is respectful to your competitor and whatever integrity this simplistic market has. Just as Sibyll says, it serves to slowly degenerate the value of the given product. However, because of the taboo associated with 1 gil undercutting I have chose to undercut in increments of 25, 50, and 75 gils. It's not because I'm trying to reflect some sort of moral integrity, it's because I want to sell my stuff.

Nope. I disagree with you. Ehcatl Sealants is one of the most annoying things to acquire. Each sealants need 8 oaknots, so in your server, it means oaknots is around 45k each. And you can only have a maximum of 6 per day.
For mastercrafters, the effort to do the ixal quests just to gain 45k is not worth it. The effort in doing ixal quests is almost the same as doing a 4-star. So mastercrafters, don't want to be bothered with getting the oaknots themselves, it's better to buy them at mb. Of course, there can be exceptions that mastercrafters have spare time that they'd rather do beast tribes than craft.

I'll agree to disagree then. I've only recently been able to 4* craft and only for BSM and ARM, so I really can't comment on how profitable these will be. Looking at the market board those items aren't selling very fast (I'm also on Mateus by the way). So to me it's a guaranteed return of Ehcatl Sealants for those dailies over the given time investment versus a piece of armor that may or may not sell for 900k.

I could see your argument making more sense for a 4* crafter that can make Artisan/Forager gear because the market for those is likely stronger than for DoW/DoM, at least on our server. However, this is just my speculation from looking at the market board so if you have any incite on our server economy I'm open to hear it.

One slight altercation to the MB system would resolve a lot of problems remove the current listing prices from the MB only show what the item has sold for after it is sold, this will prevent massive deflation and undercutting, and the MB system can remain as is, so long as u can see every item and what everyone has that item up for you will continue to have massive deflation. When u have massive deflation of a item in a matter of minutes there is a severe problem.
