Yeah, I'm in the "working on it desultorily" camp. I've got my curtana and holy shield at the animus level, and I'm working on them very slowly, as I get the gumption to do something about them. I hated the Atma grind, and the books are not horrible, but they're also not much fun... there's nothing in them that makes me think, "Oooh, I want to work on that today!" They just are.
The thing is, though, I glamor over my weapon and shield both, and don't really do a lot of high level end-game content, so who cares if I only have iL110 equipment instead of iL130?
2) On the Nexus quest for the Veil of Wiyu, Animus quests for Yoshimitsu & Thyrus (Don't ask. I couldn't explain if I tried). Somehow, the Nexus phase seems to get slower and slower each marker. For whatever reason, I convince myself not to to spend soldiery tomes and just get Vajras and a Yagrush.

i dont not like rng(atmas, the items u need in dungeons) but everything wasn't too bad
2., here. Working on my Curtana Nexus stage pretty casually, just earning my points through natural play rather than grinding anything. A bit over 2/3 done. Have a Veil of Wiyu Novus, waiting for my Curtana to finish before I start in on Nexus for that. Also have two sets of Atmas waiting, just in case I lose my mind and decide to work on yet another relic.
My impressions of the various relic stages:
- Relic acquisition: The only really enjoyable part of the quest, and the only part that didn't feel like recycled content. It had two dedicated notorious monsters to defeat, monsters that have no other point except to be part of obtaining the relic. Very nice.
- Atma collecting: Was horrible. Now is only slightly terrible. Arguably not a bad way to get post-50 players helping out others with FATEs but collecting twelve items with a low drop rate was RNG hell.
- Animus books: Compared to Atmas was a breath of fresh air; a lot to do, but it was great to have a consistent feel that you were progressing, unlike Atmas where you never knew if you'd be spending four hours for nothing or whether you'd actually find one.
- Novus scroll: Pretty relaxing, as long as you didn't try to grind for extra Alexandrite. Many of the Alexandrite treasure map monster fights were interesting, and gave an actual "new content" feel. It helped that all of them weren't too hard to solo on PLD, with the possible exception of the Cyclops (I beat him consistently now, but back in the day...). It is a bit irritating that there's such an imbalance in materia costs, though; the cost to acquire Materia for my Curtana was pennies compared to all the Crit and Det I needed for my Veil of Wiyu; once again, DPS take it firmly in the shorts.
- Nexus lights: Again, pretty relaxing, but possibly the least imaginitive stage since Atma. 2000 lights seems like it might be a bit on the high side, though - or maybe I'm just feeling pressured since the Zodiac stage came out so quickly on its heels.
- Zodiac construction: No opinion, as I haven't tried it yet.
I was a bit amused by the "storyline" such as it is, with Gerolt and Jalzahn coming up with crazy new ways to pump up your weapon.
Thanks again! :)

This one for me ^^ I stopped at the materia stage due to the quest becoming more of a test of patience then an actual fun fullfilling quest,
(me through the stages)
Stage 1 HM Primals and whatnot: "Oh gee this is kinda fun!"
Sage 2 Glow weapon: "Oh kewl! Something else to spend tokens on!"
Stage 3 ATMA: "Oh...FATES? Well...If I gotta do it then I gotta do it...at least our FC is getting XP in addition!"
Stage 4 Animus: (progressing through the books) *books 1-6* Well....I guess if I have too? *books 7-9* Dear sweet God please drop a meteor on me now.
Stage 5 Mateira: More dungeons AND materia? Just....no...nononononononononononoNO!
3) I stopped at books. I can't afford materia, so why bother advancing it when I know I won't be able to advance my weapon past that stage?
Doesn't mean you're correct though. Mindlessly grinding stupid content is in no way "hard". Nobody is moaning about it being hard, but about it being tedious and boring because there is absolutely no challenge involved.
And no, mine is not done. Mainly doing it as a little sideproject because Sasuke's Blade look pretty damn good. I'm mainly going for the Poetics/Dreadwyrm weapons...you know, stuff that requires you to do actually challenging content, of which you probably don't have any, right?
