Yes, I was aware of the stats if each race, so i picked rhe one with the more mind
Started off as a Miqo'te from playing Mithra in FFXI. Although I love being one, I changed to Lalafell cause of lore reasons. After doing the Sch quest line and since i spend about half my time on Sch (other half Bard, with some Pld and Drg) that I changed to Lalafell. After a while I changed back to Miqo'te cause I liked looking at my gear when the Glamor system came out. However, after a while I actually missed being a Lalafell (mostly as others have noted, a a seemly large amount of Miqo'te despite most races being about even in play) and have changed back to Lalafell and will probably stay that way for a long time, though playing a Lala Drk should be intresting...
I started as a highlander, then wanted to look even more generic so I switched to midlander. And the reason I did this is because as a generic hyur I look pretty good doing just about everything.
SCH was my job of choice from the very get go and so Dunefolk Lalafell came quite naturally.
Nope, stats never bothered me before, I just played what I felt was either "right" or "gives a challenge". I've been wanting to play a legit Catboy in an MMO for a while and XIV gave me that opportunity, so off I went~ I preferred the Seeker's skintones over the Keeper's, so went in that direction for my clan choice.
I'm white, and I main Black Mage, so anecdotally my race has nothing to do with my job.
On-topic: I play a Dunesfolk, because I played a Tarutaru in FFXI and the Plainsfolk IIRC didn't have a hairstyle similar enough to my FFXI char. None of the races' stats are so different that there's a good reason to pick one over the other for any job.
In my case I picked a Lala simply cos my 1 year old niece was all I could think about when ff14arr was launched.
