You are so clueless it's not even funny, this system was put in place to counter griefers, people who intentionally withdraw or timeout queues looking to fish in progress, no not everyone who accidentally missed their queue and uses their strikes "deserves" the penalty, stop looking at this with a black and white perspective.
Toxic player.
The system can't differentiate between a person who intentionally withdraws and one who doesn't. It can't read intent. Even if it could, you caused the exact same effect as a griefer did. The queue popped and you withdrew, making 3 or 7 or 23 other players have to wait.
If you did this three times in a day, you're going to deserve that penalty, just like a griefer does.
Some folks in the longer thread already outlines several legitimate ways that you could end up with three in a row, so I won't go into it here. I'll just say that I'm never in favor of punishing players to solve a problem. The correct way is ALWAYS to look at the design, and then adjust the design so that the behavior is not possible\desirable. Adding a penalty in this way was the lazy way out, and all it will do is give SE the reputation of designing games that are unnecessarily harsh to players. YoshiP has come so far in turning XIV's reputation around - he doesn't need to take steps backwards.
That's because there is a rather toxic community in XIV that ALWAYS asks to see players punished\excluded from content\just plain uninstall because they didn't do xyz the same way and don't deserve to play. Just because a bunch of people like to see other players suffer doesn't mean it's the correct solution. It's actually rather disappointing that so many would rather punish one another than work together for a fair and intelligent solution. It's even more disappointing that the devs are embracing it.
Just because someone disagrees with you that doesn't make them or the community toxic. Overall, I'd say FFXIV has one of the least toxic communities. They're tired of people who can't accept their queues ruining queue times for everyone. This is fairly reasonable. If you can't have enough respect to make sure the in game activities you choose to do in queue won't prevent you from accepting your duty, then why should the game have to accommodate that? I know how queue times are, so I make sure to do things I can easily bail on to not inconvenience a larger group of players. Crap happens. Crap shouldn't happen often enough to where this is an issue.
This isn't about toxicity of the community or punishing others. This is about encouraging a particular type of behavior within the player base. I do like how when someone disagrees with you, they are somehow punitive or vengeful. Nice touch by the way. For someone who is concerned with a toxic community, your behavior isn't improving it.
The design team has two fundamental choices. They can offer a carrot, which they do in some situations (tomestone bonus for new players), or they can use a stick (30 minute lockout for abandoning a duty in progress). For situations like this, a mild, and it is mild, stick makes sense. Offering a reward/carrot for successfully queueing for an instance would be absurd. The whole point of queueing for the instance is to join, complete, and get the rewards within it. That's why they went with a stick.
