Show you what exactly, how to play a melee?

1. Equip Self cures
2. Position yourself properly so you only get hit by what you cannot possibly avoid.
3. Lower mob TP so they don't spam AOE
4. Interrupt/Stun what AOE you can
5. Have mages casting stoneskin
6. Joust

This is not an FFXIV melee problem, it is an MMO melee problem. To play a melee in an MMO you should know these things.

O, I get it thank you. What if we do all those things and still it's not enough? I think everybody has a self cure, we have tp constraint up constantly, yes I use featherfoot for boss' aoe. I will admit I was wondering if Barbaric Yelp would work, and you realize you're being hit by 2-3 ghosts + the boss itself right? And I'm talking about ghost placement not the bosses aoe, a stoneskin isn't going to help.

Then frankly you aren't doing all of them. I'm sorry but they work.

Barbaric Yelp would not work, you should not be getting hit by 2-3 ghosts and the boss itself. I don't know why you are fighting ogre like that. Have you tank run the ogre when the bogy's move, don't use the cheap archer/mage stack method when you have melee in the party maybe?

Just suggestions, I'm sure it's not the only way. But when there are other people who are managing the fight, perhaps you should look at what they are doing and what you can do differently rather than calling on the developers to ruin the game by simply nerfing every challenging encounter.

WOW, ok this thread is about Batraal the 2nd boss have you even gotten to him yet? The title of the thread is "Batraal Fight All Screwed Up." Next

I am a Lancer and I have no trouble with the Batraal fight. We also have a Marauder and Gladiator during this fight, so that's three close range DPS, neither of us having issues with what the OP is describing. You can easily maneuver past the ghost if you have a proper strategy going on during this fight. Never mind the fact that it takes a few moments for the ghosts to even notice you exist; you can easily run out of range if they teleport on top of you. It's part of the fun in my opinion.


Edit: Though I will admit that the AI causing the mobs to just sit there and range attack if you try to maneuver them out of harm's way is rather annoying.

Gladiator is not melee dps? We've done with MRD tank also.. is he not melee dps? All i see from you is complaints and rants while others are trying to help you. Maybe you and your ls just need more practice. Others have done this whole dungeon with 0 archers. Why can't you?

Well it's easy to accuse somebody of something aslong as you assault first. You look much better then me now, but the only thing I ask is tell me what I'm doing wrong, no I don't think there is an ls that has completed with 0 "Ranged dps."

I'll take a arrow through me before a lance through me any day. I suspect the diameter of the lance might cause a little more damage than an arrow head/shaft.

Just because you're melee DPS does not mean it's all you do during this battle mind you.

It's important to understand that there are other, equally important, objectives that need to be done to make sure the fight goes smoothly.

Remember that you can't do any damage if you die. You complain that the melee DPS are idle standing on the sword portal; well that's because they would DIE if they stayed in battle while Batraal has sword buff on. So rather than getting killed, or ACTUALLY standing idle and doing nothing, melee DPS can run to the sword portal and remove his buff. Which is just as important as doing damage in the first place.

You don't complain about the portal that stops him from taking damage so why would you complain about the portal that stops him from dealing massive damage to you? It's an acceptable task for close range DPS to accomplish. It's no different than having to do some kind of stupid safety dance or make sure you're not standing next to someone who has a debuff on them that will kill you. It's how the battle works, and it's part of a close range melee DPS's role in this battle to make sure that the sword buff is off. If you need reasons why, well consider that Batraal deals incredible damage with his sword buff on, so it is important that all available mages cure the tank during this period and any ranged DPS will be out of harm's way and will be able to deal damage safely. No one but close range melee DPS can do this job "safely".

Strategy is key.

Stop trolling, and I NEVER said anything about the portals as far as complaints went. So what are you talking about? I don't care about Batraal's sword portal of course you have to bring it down yes the shield one to, obviously. Can we get back to the I agree and I disagree with some credible information. To much White Knighting going on.
