This! I wouldn't even bother if I've not had plenty of gathering materia "leftovers". The benefit though is that if I send them now for mining / gathering particular miner, botany or fisher items I'll get them faster, in higher quantity and quality so in the end it does pay off. I've actually stopped gathering most of my mats for crafting now and will send a few of my reatiners if I need to craft some new gear for spirit bonding etc. as it's much easier to grind a little bit for few more ventures then worry where to go to get the specific items plus it removes any RNG from fishing or any kind of "hunting" etc. Even for larger crafting orders I can send out 8 or 10 retainers and have mutliply items back in 40 - 60 minutes in sufficient quantity.

Any ya got a link to what every exploration lvl venture items are?

I got a Gysahl Ring from a lvl 45 exploaration the other day.

Can't really do anything with it outside of equip it... won't let me sell it or trade it :(

Got a Blue Fox Hide from the Rank XI 18hr venture yesterday. Was quite pleased because those are quite rare and quite expensive on the MB, and make quite a lot of things.

Wow cool, didn't know it can be obtained through a Venture. Thought it is only the Mindflayer you can get. I have no luck with Peisteskin maps..did over hundred of them and only saw the Blue Fox Hide once, of course not dropping into my inventory. :(

From the i70 18hr venture, I've only seen HQ Coeurl Meat, HQ Hippo Skin, Mindflayer, Light Steel, and Tafetta Cloth. It's a bit underwhelming. The prices of these aren't great anymore and I can get much better stuff from the Quick ventures. I only do the 18hr ones when I know I'll be away from the game for at least that long.

^^ same, last thing I do before I logout when I have to work the next day anyways. Although reward is not that fantastic, you always get a good portion of GIL extra. And yes, the items aren't that expensive anymore. Another one of my false decisions lol. When I got them in the beginning, I could have sold them for a good price but I kept them hoping to upgrade my crafters to make use of them. But I am still stuck trying to get the new DOH tools and they just rot into my inventory, loosing value.

I used to just do 18hr ventures cos i didnt think i could get anything better that Gil or HQ Ouchu Vines and couldnt be bothered going back every hour to see what they found. The other night i ran a quick venture and got Tidal Barding. Pretty happy with that, havent seen any about but havent decided if i will try to sell it or keep it, it is on at 2.5M on the board on my server.

All my retainer seems to do is bring back fish. Fish, or she breaks into people's houses and brings me their furnishings.....sometimes their rooves, hell, even the floor once. But mainly she has a 94% chance of bringing back fish. And she's a THM

Yeah, the quick ventures for my THM and ACN retainers are usually fish or crap furnishings. Though, the occasional Radz oil, Primal weapon, carby desk, etc make them worth it in the long run. Much better than the crap you get from the 18hr ones anyway; the tafetta/lightsteel are nice but way too long a wait for such low chance. Do quicks, sell the good stuff, buy the steel/cloth if you need it.
