Favorite Final Fantasy and what you wish this game would take from it!

Hearing Tanaka talk about this game being weapon-centric led me to believe that learning abilities through weapons was the direction that FFXIV was going to take.

What I wish FFXIV would take from it - The pre-requisite Job system .. and Ivalice...


How different would this game have been if you only had 2 main jobs to start with: Squire and Chemist. After lvl 10, Squire can unlock Warrior and Archer, while Chemist unlocks Black Mage and White Mage... And so on, and so on...

/sigh...

I guess my overall favourite would be FFXI, it is certainly the one I have spent the most time with over the years and kept coming back to.

One thing to take from it? The sense of adventure and achievement it had. There were so many different places to go and even playing it for 5 years inam sure their were still many places I had not explored. The sense of achievement and milestones to aim for in FFXI were plentiful. There was always something to work towards and when you got it you felt like you had achieved something.

For me FFXIV has neither of these things and that is what I am missing the most.

I think he's right.
A lot of stuff was great in the past FF games, but it just won't really fit in here.
Great new stuff is NOT created by copy/paste of the ideas they already used in other FF games.
Do you really think FF would be such a well-known, popular series if they just used the concept of FF I over and over and over again?
Every Final Fantasy game is filled with some new ideas which weren't in the previous game.
That's what makes them unique.
And later, after months or years, it becomes known as what we call "typical Final Fantasy content".
If Yoshida's team implements all the stuff from previous FF games, I think they truly failed.
(and I'm not talking about references like certain weapons, monsters, or the chocobos, but entire systems like the Sphere Grid).

FFVII - Battle arena with + Points for victory, you can change these points for different stuff at npc.

The overal design of the world (as in, lots of varied, colorful fantasy environments)

I'm really surprised this thread didn't turn into an XI circle jerk.

Anywho, my fav is VI and what I wish SE would take from that game for XIV are espers. Allow us to find and equip crystals that give us interesting abilities and and/or the ability to summon the spirit of the dead esper in battle.

The espers would be great or a system similar to it. Summoning them would have to be restricted to a summoner job imho, I'd hate to see everyone being able to summon, but from what I have seen of the story so far, it kind of hinted toward that :/ But having the espers give abilities to non-summoner jobs would give a good incentive/reward for fighting them.
