And..Crap! I forgot about Ifrit. I guess that would be okay too!
However..I dont see Cid really coming in. I dont see any place where a "Cid" figure would be appropriate at the moment. Maybe in Ishgard.

Edit: Cant read at 1am in the morning too well. So Cid IS coming in??

Aw come on! with Airships imminent and other modes of transport as well you doubt the genius that is Cid will not make his entrance!?.

Anyway. Cid could be a figure of prominence too like FFIX and be the leader of Ishgard, etc.
