PLEASE, stop teaching/telling new healers to DPS

Unlike dungeons at the level cap where players sit at 30 ilvls above the content, a lot of people in dungeons have gear that is on par or in most cases less than desirable. Tank and party damage is more bursty than what you typically see. People don't have pats memorized. Some dungeons have random AoE on the ground. Some players eat bombs. When you play the Low Level Cleric Stance Hero, you impede your ability to react quickly and control mistakes your group makes.

And the problem isn't typically new players. It's new healers. A new player almost always focuses on healing. He actually Esuna's poisons and uses Cure instead of Cure II where appropriate. The Low Level Cleric Stance Hero, however, almost always has 2 or 3 other classes maxed. He's seen healers DPS in dungeons he's been in before. He sees people like "Thunderz" on the forumz and goes wow, I wanna be like that when I grow up. And in his attemptz to impress everyone by turning a 40 minute dungeon instead a 37 minute dungeon, he windz up causing wipez and making a tank'z life a nightmare. That's the part you aren't getting.

For anyone reading this thread who wants some Healer DPS tips:

1. Keybind Cleric Stance and practice toggling it on and off until it becomes second nature. Mind the delay in between when Cleric Stance is applied and when the global is up so you can remove it again. Budget for this time.
2. Understand your dungeon mechanics, and know when the damage is coming. This will be harder for low level dungeons since people tend to clear them and move on.
3. If you're SCH, bind Embrace and manually cast it. Fairy AI starts at 80%, which is too low. Pre-casting is your friend.
4. Consider using Focus target macros for offensive abilities, so you don't ever have to take your attention off the tank. This works amazingly well when paired with manual-cast Embrace and Lustrate (sorry WHM).

Stoneskin is full potency during cleric stance too. Sch is the master of cleric stance healing XD. Whm is much better for WP speed runs due to holy.

As healers get more confident in their abilities they will start to dps more.

My static tank said to me . That he notices that good or experienced healers will often let him fall to low hp but bad or new healers will keep him 100% all times.

Actually; you're the one stating the obvious. Yes, a healer that doesn't run out of MP is better than one that does.. did you really just say that? The reason the OP is being ridiculed is because he's assuming one has something to do with the other; good healers should know how to walk and talk at the same time.

SCH is so much easier for DDing for dungeons. I usually stay in Cleric Stance while my pet takes care of healing. With the occasional heal from me while in CS. I just do it cause it's fun.

This is basically the most important point of the entire topic. A healer can (and will, and probably should) dps if/when they feel comfortable to be doing so.

A healer isn't necessarily "bad" if they aren't contributing to DPS'ing during fights. It could just be the case that they aren't comfortable doing so yet, and I'd rather a healer play it safe and avoid a wipe than sit in Cleric Stance because they feel they have to from what they've seen of other healers in their endgame experience.

Im leveling whm and dps purely out of boredom, low lvl dungeons are just to easy to not dps in... Never had anyone die while dpsing or went oom.

I find dpsing while healing on low level dungeons immensely easier on SCH than WHM. On a SCH, if you're not doing it, you might as well just set yourself to follow and leave during the trash mobs and let your fairy handle everything. There is no reason (on trash mobs) and SCH shouldn't be able to stay in cleric stance full time dpsing, while casting Embrace and Lustrate as needed.

On my WHM, I am guilty of dpsing until the tank's health gets down to about 30% and then healing them back up. But that's mostly because I'm confident I can get them back up no problem.

No. I said "healers that only heal is better than one that dpses mindlessly". Yes, a master at both is the best of course. You simply do not see that training healers to heal properly first is better than training healers to also dps and have them fail, which means it's not obvious. To you, at least.
