But regarding the OP. I'd say I've seen a fair amount of dropping by all roles, though I may not have had the exposure others have had due to both tanking and healing being my mains. I'll admit that I've dropped a handful of times because of rude players, but I have no issue explaining to newbies - I was there once and I'm always appreciative of others who help/explain mechanics or have patience with newbies as well.

I don't think tanks should be pigeonholed like this, we're not all bad. It's probably more on the player than the role. Someone who is easily frustrated with new players or wiping is going to quit regardless of whether they're tanking healing or DPSing.

I will stick with tanking. I never leave a group unless its hopeless because everyone keeps standing in the red rings of death after you told everyone to get out of them multiple times.

Psychologist and computer scientist actually. But I'm really just a massive nerd that likes learning about all kinds of stuff and has excellent memory retention. You'll probably notice that I take a much more "irrational" view of economics than most economists do, thanks largely to the psychologist in me screaming that people aren't rational and follow heuristics as opposed to carefully balanced calculations. I have a *monumental* dislike of homo economicus since it's completely and utterly unrealistic (if you're ever curious about the sheer absurdity of that assumption of human behavior, check out the Pirate logic puzzle).

I don't know if I'm just more tolerant than some, but I've never quit a dungeon despite how bad things have gotten. I really like helping new people and feel encouraged to stay, especially when there's noticeable progress after each wipe. I don't mind people leaving because of RL or FC events, they're tired, or even frustrated after a few wipes. I get it, and I agree that you shouldn't feel obligated to stay.

My problem is when experienced/well-geared players don't even give it a chance. It's like they forgot what it was like to run that fight for the 1st time without their oh-so-awesome gear.

It's not that I'm trying to single out tanks; it's that in MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, it's the tank that bails even before the first pull because someone in the party doesn't have enough DL/relic pieces than they're comfortable with or admits it's their first run.

Not everyone has played since launch. While it may be your 100th time, it can be someone's first. We all have to start somewhere.

I left a Haukke Manor Hard Mode group the other day because on the first boss the DPS ignored the adds and the healer was getting killed every attempt. I asked several time for the DPS to take down the adds as they spawned to no avail. After the 30 minutes DF debuff had ended I signed up again and although my new group wasn't as well geared and it took a little longer to kill stuff everyone was competent and we got everything down first time

I leave groups when it becomes clear that staying with them is a waste of time. I'm not going to stay and keep on wiping on the off chance that people who don't want to work as part of a team suddenly have a change of heart.

Some player struggle with the transition from solo to group play.

all i can say is that its not a tank or healer responsibility or healers responsibility to keep players alive..its a team responsibility. I have run across so many dps who blame the tank or healer on a terrible run. only half of the dps pop(the biggest role pop) use cc abilities. I dont know if its just me learning how to tank still but it is really hard to grab aggro of main boss and all the spawning ads. please dps ...please make it easier for tanks to grab the damn aggro..

I came over here from SWTOR and I was hoping to find a better situation here for the high-level group content. Over there everyone forming a party is always proclaiming "Must be geared, must know fights!" and I got really tired wondering "Where do all these magically geared and experienced people come from?"

I'm playing through a video of Brayflox's Longstop now, because I don't want to be the "bad tank"... but I shouldn't feel I *have* to watch game film just because someone else has done it before, and it's there. One day... one day there will be new fresh content where I can be the tip of the spear... what then?

There's certain levels of experience that people expect people to have, even pugs, given the age of certain content. After a couple months, people are going to assume that you know all of the content (that's not on the extreme end of end game progression) simply because, for everyone that's been around for a reasonable period of time, they've most likely done it a few times already and *should* know it. It's like this for all of the leveling dungeons, AK, WP, and the HM primals; there's probably a reasonable case for t1-2 of Binding Coil as well. All of the new stuff is going to have a lot of leeway on the expectation to know the specific fight strats (I've got no problem explaining Pharos, HM Copperbell, or HM Haukke, to pugs, but I *will* we irked if I have to explain AK or WP), though, no matter what you do you're still going to see a certain level of gear elitism (which is really just the community telling you that the game mandated minimum i-level is not the culturally accepted minimum i-level).

I'm that @$$hole. I leave all the time. I start each run by asking who is new. If no one responds I assume people know what they're doing. When they prove to me through their actions or lack of them I leave. Call me an elitist if you want to but there are certain things people should know. CC if you can, follow the marked targets, stay out of the red zones, if I'm not taking much damage it is OK for the healer to dps a bit.

For example, I've been running Garuda HM for the axe. I'm almost full DL (missing 2 pieces) and when I see people in there with AF1 or lvl 39 accessories? Nope, I am going to leave. When the adds split and people go after the red one first and don't touch the green? I am going to leave.

I put in the time and effort to gear myself up and learn the fights. If you can't be reasonably expected to do the same I have no sympathy for you.
