Not Real Life so why ARE The housing Prices so Insane? Subbing to this is horrible.

Buy gil, problem solved. SE is trying to promote it with this. I can see the Gilfinders rolling with excitement this patch. I myself as a FC leader didn't care about FC housing all that much, but I have a few players that do, and this sucks for them. I don't care how much money people have on my server, this is a video game. All housing should cost the same no matter the server. Buying gil is def the way to go though if you really want that house. I mean SE literally approved it with this patch. I have my complaints about XIV and will defend SE where I think it's defendable but lol.. This is insane.

I've always been a fanboy but.. 125m on Tonberry for big house? 62.5 at least then? I'm in an FC for 8, and I want the mansion. Call me greedy.. But anyway, with these ridiculous prices I wonder if we can look forward to personal housing. I mean, assuming they designed it with hundreds of people for big FC house in mind.. You don't think the price could be 10% do you? I'd really like to look forward to the personal house,but at the rate that gil is generated and the prices right now.. I just don't really see it happening :(

Without redenomination economies on legacy servers would have been utterly insane for anyone who didn't play 1.0. Pricing on balmung had been bordering on batshit crazy before Dalamud came down, and a LOT of money-making exploits (like the GC potion bit where you could buy cheap GC potions, NPC sell them for a decent return over and over) needed to be dealt with.

You can blame everyone for that. New players for not wanting to play with legacy players, and legacy players for not wanting major/complete resets for their characters.

Like OP said, this excitement of mine has melted away immediately. The dream was dead on arrival. I, and I imagine my FC, will never pay for this. Not just *cannot*. *WILL NOT*, because the demanded prices is so outrageously insulting.

Just for giggles: In Wildstar, all you need is a couple of silvers to buy your own plot and Lv 14.
You can do this in less than a day; sometimes in just some hours.
Customizing and itemizing the house however, requires you work a little harder. But obtaining initally it's not too difficult to accomplish.

I feel this development team is doing things backwards.
What's going on in that dev room? Are they walking on the celiling or something as they design mechanics and things?

A lot of people don't seem to realize that this current housing is meant for Free Companies, not individual player housing. On my server the cheapest house is 8m, which is totally doable by one player if they save up for a few weeks, and even more so by a small FC of even 5-10 players. I've never really tried to make money but I'm always around 800k, fluctuating down to 0-100k at times but I always bounce back up to at least 500k or so. If I really worked at it I'm sure I could save up around 1.5m in short order.

I'd go so far as to say that even the best medium plot size house is doable at 37.5m for most FC's of 20-50 players. The largest houses aren't going to be available to anyone except possibly a FC full of people who had all 50 crafts at the start of the game and are loaded, but in time they will drop to manageable prices - for me it's 125m, and at half price of around 60m that is easily doable by the larger FCs. For all the small 5-10 man FCs I think they're stuck buying a small house, but it should be easily affordable if you've saved up any kind of cash at all.

A: For how much we should let them buy land for the housing? (only the LAND)
B: Lets see, how many members can they have?
A: Oh, you are right, 500 Members...
B: You see, simple, lets say 1M for each and we have ~ 500M for the FC
A: Great, but isnt that a bit unfair to smaller FCs?
B: No, lets say its for the LARGE land and anyway, just look on all those 1.x players with their money!
A: You are right, seems ok for me, 1M isnt much and we increase gildrop anyway...
B: Dont forget, its just the starting price, they will forgive us when it drops with time.
A: Damn, i forgot... true!

I would be fine with this, but it will make me paranoid to sell or buy anything off the markets. Tons of not-so-smart people will resort to RMT because they "want it now". I'm fine that it might take my FC a few months or so to get the house. But at a price that high... RMT will be back in full swing. I just don't want to get banned for buying something they are selling under what looks to be a legitimate player name. Which, with these high prices, will bring more RMT than ever before. Or, not to mention, get banned for making too much money from making bank on some of the new craft-able items.

Maybe I overestimate the general player bases' "want it now" mentality, but I doubt it. Warning players that actions will be taken against them will do nothing for more than half the people who use RMT resources anyway.

Housing is like a mini-game that only the elite can play.

People don't want stuff handed to them, they just want to play the new mini-game. It's far better to make housing affordable and then have all the work go into collecting and/or crafting the furniture than to make a mini-game that only a few can even play. MMOs require time and lots of grinding, this is understood, but why couldn't they have made the time and grinding required for furniture instead of not even let players play the mini-game that was a huge selling point of this whole patch?

There's a lot of outcry and with good reason. It's depressing enough saving up for a house in real life without living in the ghetto in a game as well. Aren't our characters supposed to be the heroes of Eorzea? NPC's won't even pick up the stuff they drop and we're out there killing primals!

It's so wrong to say that players don't want to work towards stuff. Many of us do but

1) we want the work to be fun since we're paying to play a game after all
2) we want the reward to be something else that's fun and
3) we HAVE been working towards housing. My FC has 50 people and we only have 4m gil saved.

These prices are like a slap in the face. As is saying that players aren't putting in time an effort. I play 5-8 hours a day and have played since release. Make us work hard for rewards not to have access to content. Housing is sort of a complex issue because it's kind of both but I agree that players who are prohibitively excluded from content are right to want to unsub. We are after all, paying to play a game in order to have fun.
