This is a very good idea actually! I don't see how some of these instanced dungeons can't become zones in future expansions. Assuming they won't be used for hard mode instances.

I do miss open world dungeons, I hope they eventually add some in. I mean, why not? They were just regular zones that happened to be underground.
They are as big as most zones, I dont see why they cant be un-instanced once you clear them or make them available for endgame.
The codes/monsters are there all they'll need to do is just put these zones in each server.
Maybe make the bosses instanced instead, kinda like the primals.

I haven't played FFXI but I have played Rappelz and they have open dungeons. I love it!
Every time I suggest a small incursion into beastmen territory, nobody wants to come.
Ill say, FFXI is free for anyone who had an account. Try it out. Test those rose-colored glasses. I did. When I first logged in, I had no idea what to do. I couldn't find a "warp home" ability (i wasnt on my blm) so I ran around looking for an exit. For 20 mins.
See what made FFXI so memorable was the fact that you had to remember all the intricacies in order to play the game. The game was who could remember the most in order to work around the barriers put in place by the developers. I mean, by virtue of this forum, we have people clamoring for a system that pretty much needs 2+ people to get anything of merit done. Usually at the benefit of one person. I remember farming Shikigami Weapon for a week (lollockout) just to get my Yinyang Robe for my SMN. I had to ask 4 of my friends for help to kill one mob, in a very dangerous zone (for lvl 75ers), all for my benefit. I loved being forced to log on to record the death timer for the mob, tracking him around the zone (he spawned invisible and ran 2x faster than everything else and would only become visible if you aggro'd him), but I realized after getting my gear that it was a decent sacrifice for those who came to help me as they were rewarded with nothing.
