All Worlds Maintenance (Dec. 16-17)

While I don't consider myself significant (Im one single Canadian) I do consider the entire population of Canada to be fairly significant. All 35 mil. of us. I'd also wager there's almost as many Canadian FFXIV players as total European players. They probably would have been better off using Toronto, but Montreal is not a small city and fairly tech forward. It isn't as big as say Dallas or Chicago but our carriers up here are just as good and perhaps better than places in the US. The reason for Montreal was twofold. Number 1 SE owns the property as they acquired it from Eidos a while back. NUmber 2 it puts the data center as close to Europe as possible without actually putting one IN Europe. The EU players would probably have it worse if the datacenter was in Chitown Dallas or LA. as Chitown adds close to 1500 miles of distance from Europe and the latter two cities add nearly 3000.

Yes...thats why I said tentatively, read much? What they are proposing I dont think is 24 hours of potential work unless they are already expecting issues.

Ask yourself, if you were in charge of this game
Would you not expect issues?
In fact would you expect anything short of catastrophic issues at every turn?

Because if you were in charge of anything at all and don't, then i'm going to say you're failing at it

It's better to overestimate the maintenance time and have it end sooner than expected, because the alternative could be much worse, the game just doesn't need another 1017 episode (though this isn't really something they can fully counter without witnessing the player flow).

Anyway, 24 hrs is pretty damn long, but then again previous maints took pretty damn long as well so can't say this is much of a surprise.

They said they are fixing the .3 sever thing so by all means devs, take as long as you need. I'll gladly not play for 24 hours if that will be fixed!! ^.^

Kind of, they are only fixing it for certain instances, like PvP, certain dungeons and the primal battles, for example. They are not fixing it for most content, but the delay isn't really a significant problem outside of the instances they are fixing it for.

Agreed, again im just unsure why they decided to estimate a full 24 hours for it, I would be incredibly suprised if it did indeed take that long. I guess it makes them look better if they do it in twelve, than estimating say 6 hours and extending it by 6.

Who of significance lives in the US?

Why would a patch take 1-2 days? I've never seen a patch take that long in all my MMO playing years.
