If he really was saying that materia will never be gathering only, a more appropriate response would have been materia isn't obtained from gathering at all, and cataylsts are only gained through gathering.

There was never any real question whether or not materia was going to be gathering only. That part of the question wasn't even made with the correct assumptions, and should have never been responded to as if it was.

I will just toss my two cents in. I really dig the materia system concept, and especially the fact that each of the class types play an active part in the creation of materia. As a crafter and a battle class I have no problems with various components of the overall process being specific to say DOL vs DOW/DOW vs DOH.

I do enjoy reading all the points of view on what parts to keep specific to what types of classes, but it seems almost trivial since WE can all be these types of classes. ...Okay so DOH might have a leg up if the system isn't changed. I really don't see the problem since anyone and i mean anyone can be a crafter. Just like anyone can go buy an axe/pickaxe /fishing rod and be a gatherer.

It seems the TC thought that Materia would be obtained by DoL only, and I pointed that out to them it was never going to be the case. We knew nothing about Catalysts aside from them saying they would be gathered, so I didn't comment on them. I still don't get how what I said has anything to do with being "Owned" by the rep. I stated clearly that I know that Materia would never be obtained by soley DoL. Eh whatever not worth argueing about anyways.

I really want more information on the system as a whole though.
-Will higher ranked gatherers get better catalysts?
-What is the process of obtaining them?
-Are there any benifits to gathering them aside from selling them?
-How will Catalysts effect the materia process as a whole?

I guess we just need to wait and see what they tell us.

Yes for this. Gatherers can be even more useful. .)

it wasnt meant to be Materia AND catalysts gathering only

but the materia system: catalysts(if that makes more sense)

i know the materia will be available elsewhere, i was mainly talking about catalysts

The only thing I care about is that Catalysts should be somewhat "rare". Not rare in where you had to gather for 5h+ to get one Catalyst, but rare enough so there is actually a point for gatherers to get them. I hate what they did with Guild Marks on DoH...I mean, at the start it was way too horrible, totally agree with that, I had my crafts at 30+ before I got my first training(only cause of the 2 Class Quests lol), then the first patch came that increased the chance to get Marks, which made the System completely fine IMO. But THEN they increased the chance even more which made the whole purpose of Marks broken. Honestly...with the amount of marks you get now, they could have made the Trainings and Abilities for DoH purchasable with Gil even...cause there is no way you won't get all your trainings and abilitites before you hit R50 anyway <.< There was nothing wrong with the amount of Marks after the first patch, now it's just completely useless.

I'm thinking since it's been said elsewhere that there will be restrictions on what materia can be used in what weapons (possibly based on rank or stats) that Catalysts might be no different. There may be catalysts used for specific rank ranges (1-10, 11-20, etc...). This would make sense as where do you draw the line to start obtaining them otherwise? If it's just a single item that's the same for all, would you make it an Rank 5 node specific item? What about newer gatherers? They can't participate in the market otherwise.

I didn't pay the monthly fee (in future) for playing a high definition Harvest Moon


Do people on this forum even know what fun IS?

You don't need to play a DoL class, it's your free choice.
You can buy the catalyst, too
