I do agree, however there are a lot of ffxi fans whose computers can't run ffxiv and are planning on playing on the ps3.
But it is pointless to release a broken game across multiple consoles at this point.

To be honest Square Enix did not say this game would be the best or up to anyones expectation. Hells they didn't even advertise this game, you only heard about it in forums or people. I'm playing for free as it stands, i'm happy enough. Square Enix will have to play catch up via updates.
There might not be a launch date, but they do seem determined to accomplish that.
"good" mmorpg, nowadays do need to look into different and new markets, as the PC mmorpg market is by now absolutely saturated. Consoles are the biggest of them.
Care to name a Pay to play non-wow PC mmorpg over the million subscribers?
Also, and ultimately, Final Fantasy is a primaily console-related franchise. Most of final fantasy fans are console gamers. No marketing team worth a little bit of their salt would suggest to exclude consoles from a Final Fantasy release, as no marketing team worth their salt would ever cut off their main target from their product. And the main target of the Final Fantasy Franchise is playing on consoles.
If there's ONE single thing that will make FFXIV pick up from the launch blunder it will be a PS3 launch when the game will be in a good state (another, even if secondary, would be a heavily discounted and publicized Steam launch). Second opportunities are gold for MMORPGs.
Well since by your argument SE is giving you $12/monthly in service since launch (to negate you paying them), i would think they could at least cover the cost of the game if they wanted to return it :). It might save face with some people, but most will just move on anyways. I know i'll try ffxiv again, i'm just waiting for the "major overhauls and the classes to become unique".
Truthfully even if they offered a return program i wouldn't return the game. I'm hopeful it will get better, not to mention the money i spent on it is out of my mind as far as finances go. :P
Though really i'm hoping for a complete overhaul and a player wipe. I know they are going to try to avoid it, but if the game changes too fundamentally they just might have to do it. And really i think for it to be enjoyable for me thats what it would take sadly. I just don't like the whole armory system with job and physical levels.
What happened was square forgot the toothpaste in the bathroom and because of this work on FFXIV was delayed, then when they got some new toothbrushes from the dentist they got eaten by a rouge chocobo. Several tooth related events later, we find that square has not only forgot to brush it's teeth, but they forgot to brush the games teeth as well. So you see, after square makes a new appointment at the dentist for them and the game, it will all be better.
And that's where babies come from.
How does a player wipe help anything, all that would do is outrage the existing playerbase and cause the majority of them to quit. And it does not help the new comers to the game at all.
And Yoshi said he will not do a wipe and if they did change things drastically he would let us keep our progression in another way.
I do not care how they do it, if my Mar is rank 50 and they change everything let me be a cap level class of my choice. That would be the only way I would take a wipe.
You will hope for a long, long time (think eternity). Wiping after five months of release is an absolutely surefire way to wipe their customerbase, as 99% of the players would quit without looking back.
if there's one single element that keeps people playing an MMORPG (any MMORPG) more than anything else is the desire not to waste the past efforts and results. Take that away -> Kill the game.
if you don't like the very base upon which the whole game stands upon (the armoury system), you may as well give up and look into other games nearer to your playstyle. It will be tweaked, some unique/restricted abilities will be added and the physical levels might be removed, but the system is not going to go away. You can bet your whole yearly income on that. Tell'em your local brooker told you, and that's a surefire bet.
Define the best? It is the largest and makes the most money.... i'd say at least in the companies eye that is the "best".
Best is a relative term that is different from person to person. Though saying it will take down wow, all the making of the realm videos... they had big hopes. Then again so did all the players on day 1.
