Tonberry King strat for WP

Once I was last survivor and had to kite boss + adds, the funny and challenging part was to hit and run... believe it or not, it worked, just hard because you need to avoid adds (special the big ones)
Not possible for all jobs, but it is indeed an option...

Best tactic for our FC is to always let the melee dps stay on the boss 100% and let the ranged dps deal with the adds. Has never failed us.

1 DPS on boss.
1 Ranged DPS on adds.

Most tanks can take up to 4 charges.... Cycles are 2, 3, 4, 5....

You should be able put up enough DPS on the boss that you have kill all the adds and then the 5 spawn.. kill 4 wait for the buff and kill the last. If your not in DPS Race mode... you most likely will wipe after this.

I am a BLM. So my personal tactic 2, 3, most of time 4 never happens... and then when 5 happens kill 2.... DPS race the boss... when the other 3 get close ... AE LB and loot the chest.

Strat:
Tank tanks the king.
Heals focuses only on tank.
1 DPS Focuses on the King.
Me as a DRG runs around killing adds in 1-2 hits each.

P2: Burn the boss.

same as AK, you'll be wiped only if you have poor damage dealers.

everyone stand right next to boss and kill it..... thats it....if u cant do that ...... quit.

Kiting the adds is iffy. (it can work..sometimes) The instant ability the adds use is called Scourge of Nym. and ive seen it hit me (the tank) for anywhere from 300 to 4.5k dmg. the upper limit just sees rare, but i have no idea why it has such a large gap in dmg.

the strat i've used for winning is basically the same as everyone else's though, Tank tanks boss, 1 DD on boss, 1 DD on adds. and everyone rushes boss once slashes appear.

also, 5 is the cap on Stacks of rancor :x. had a BLM LB king and the adds and he only gained 5 from it, even though there where alot more present.

The Scourge of Nym pretty much discourages kiting and it's a last-ditch effort if your DPS can't kill the Tonberries as soon as possible.

The fight is a straight up DPS race where 1 DD is on adds and the other on boss. The biggest mistake I see the add DDs do, especially the casters, is running around too much and not killing the adds fast enough. High rancor stacks becomes an issue if your add DD has fallen behind and try to mindlessly salvage the situation by AoEing all the remaining Tonberries.

Gear won't be much of an issue as long as your DDs are wearing level 40+ items and are competent at their role. I've tanked WP many times and only incompetent DDs couldn't handle the adds. The healer in your group could also help out as long as the tank is being topped off and healed for Everyone's Grudge.

Maybe it's because I only do WP speedruns in a relic/DL geared group, but we never worry about stacks and just kill the adds. Tank always survives whatever massive hit the Tonberry King does on him.

The kiting strategy is only going to result in a wipe.
