.... It could be so much worse. World Of Warcraft shuts down EVERY Tuesday, Every Single Tuesday and that's a whole day you can't play damn near, every single week.
FFXIV has maitenance, but sometimes the game is up for 2 to 3 weeks without any interuptions, that's a lot better than some games. Maintenance is a normal routine to an MMO. If you don't like it perhaps an MMO is not for you. Let me rephrase that, no one likes not being able to play. However, no one likes serious issues going months unpatched either.
My question is why is there 5 pages to this thread?...Its called maintenance and yes they can shut it down..its in the terms you agreed to when you signed up..the end.
SE offer a service which you choose to accept in order to play. it really is as simple as that. If your personal circumstances don't allow you to take the advantage of the service that you'd like that's unfortunate for you but no grounds for complaint. Personally I feel the service offered represents excellent value for money. Obviously there are areas where improvements could be made but I don't see the maintenance schedule as a legitimate gripe.
I agree we accept to pay for it and that it is a necessary service. My only gripe is that they tend to do it during NA prime times. Why not do a tiered maintenance and have the NA servers get updated at 2 AM PST?
It's funny how the rest of the world have been putting up with maintenance during prime time etc while Americans never have to deal with that, then when it does eventually mean that maintenance is during NA primetime it's like the world's going to end. The maintenance is to fix issues that people complain about so you either put up with the issues or deal with not being able to play for a day. I'm fairly sure most people would choose to not play for a day.
Come on, you can put up with maintenance every now and then. It's certainly not the end of the world. Read a book or catch up on some T.V.
10 years of playing mmos and personally being impacted by this. Now it's convenient for me and the rest of the eu. Makes a nice change.
