People said the Sam Raimi theory was far fetched...
So how about that Sam Raimi theory being far fetched eh people? Yoshida has answered my prayers. Finally I can play my main from XI!
Wait a minute... Samurai in Japanese is 侍. If you pay attention to the kanji, you can see it's made up of ⺅(Person), 寸(A measurement length), 土(Earth). Who is a person who measures the Earth? A Calculator! Can't believe all the people fell for the red herring of Samurai. The new job is obviously Calculator.
Umm... absolutely yes it was far more far-fetched.
Just because it ended up being the case doesn't change that it was completely far-fetched. All you had to do was look at precedent. All of the previous hints were extremely obvious and straightforward. Dark Knight = Batman (the Dark Knight). Red Mage = Scarlet Witch. Gun user = 007. And I believe there was even a hint with Naruto when NIN was going to be released.
Sam Raimi was incredibly far-fetched and odd. Spiderman is a HUGE intellectual property spanning many forms of media. Sam Raimi was a minor fraction compared to the whole. Going by past precedent, it should have been more obvious. Thus Spiderman, who got his powers from being attacked, screamed Blue Mage. Hell, even Dancer was much more plausible than Samurai.
Yes, you can feel good that you were correct. But that doesn't change the fact that it was the least likely option based on past precedent.
To be fair: Batman was related to Dark Knight because the film in cinema, not because Batman is using a sword or getting his ability from magic...
Spiderman is similar with the upcoming Samurai theme in the comics in japan!
Same as with 007 and his gun moving pose he added the hint with the "3 original films" that resulted in Sam Raimi.
You would be right if not for the fact that it was instead Yoshi Ps comments that formed the basis of the theories. It wasn't that he wore the shirt, it was that he said "I love spiderman, especially the Sam Raimi films", and given that in japan that Sam Raimi's name is said very closely to the way that Samurai is said, it wasn't a difficult leap.
1) Batman has been known as "The Dark Knight" for far, far, far longer than the movie.
2) There is no Spiderman Samurai comic. There is a figurine that has Spiderman in Samurai armor. They did one for Batman too.
3) 007 was a direct, blatant hint of a "Gun user" (what it's called in Japanese). Just like Dark Knight, Scarlet Witch and Naruto.
Really, Blue Mage was the more far fetched theory.
The idea behind that class is willful learning of techniques from a variety of enemies - if we're gonna pick a superhero that fits that bill, Rogue is a less far fetched hint. Spider-Man was bitten once, by accident, and never sought out abilities from other creatures.
Compare that to a specific mention of a name, that when written in Japanese?
Samurai - サムライ
Sam Raimi - サム・ライミ
At BEST, that gives them equal weight as theories, but if we're really saying one is more far fetched...sorry, it was Blue Mage.
He specifically mentioned liking sam raimi.
if the hint was bad, no one would've figured it out. people figured it out immediately.
ipso facto sam raimi as samurai was a good hint.
Adding a U to the middle of a pitiful director's name, who ran his own Spider-man series into the ground with whatever Spider-man 3 was.
Or an origin story that relates to just about any Spider-man medium ever created.
I'd say the safe bet was with the spider bite theory. Wrong as it turned out to be, it was the more logical guess.
The hint/tease itself was a rather weak choice if anything. Which in turn spawned an even weaker theory. There were so many other things he could have used, other than trudging up a director who hasn't struck gold since 2002. Relating the comic book hero to a single director (even with cutesy word play) is like making the Batman hint out to be Timburt as a new job. It related in no way to the actual character of Spider-man, or anything about him.
So yes, it was a bad hint. Either way, I'm not disappointed. Any job is a good job. I'll level them all anyway. And I was already in love with RDM before any of this.
Also, your suggestion about Rogue. She takes powers from other mutants, not creatures, AFAIK. So Spider-man still fits BLU far better than her. Last I checked, BLU didn't sing to the birds to get them to cooperate. They had to have the ability used against them; or in other words attacked by them.
Yawn, this whole expansion seems so dull - at least what they've shown so far.
DPS players get two new jobs to play with, tanks and healers get nothing. No new race. No new character customization options. We're gonna be right back in the same 8-person and 24-person raid cycles we've always had, grinding tomes for gear that last 3 months, AFKing in the new Asian-themed city.
I think it is.
Samurai added, that's not a surprise, there was no way that wasn't going to be added this expansion.
I am quite disappointed in Yoshi P for the Sam Raimi connection to the shirt though. That is a major stretch compared to past shirt hints. Red Mage couldn't have been more obvious, nor Dark Knight. A better choice for Samurai would've been The Silver Samurai.

That said, quite glad we finally got Samurai in. It was over due.
I'm super happy. I tank mostly and heal more often then I use to. I don't care for DPS. I have no interest in SAM or RDM which is outstanding because I can focus on my 5+ jobs that need leveling to the new cap and not have to worry about a Job I wanted.
Also some of my FC are super happy to have SAM and RDM so I'm happy they are happy. Everybody's happy!
My guess would be BLU Tank and DNC healer myself.
DoW Healer (Dancer)
DoM Tank (Blue Mage)
Yay! No Dancer! :o
Yay! Samurai \o/
Agreed. Nothing about it feels or looks like "true to FF" like Yoshida said it would. I was expecting classic FF feel, castles and stuff like in the traditional FF games. Well, my hype is zero now lol. I'm not disappointed, just no real interest in it.
The only Asian stuff I recall in older FF is Yuffies village, and that was a small portion of the game.
Housing area - no interest. Sticking with my LB mansion.
Meh, what a bummer...well, I hope there is a LOT of new content with longevity and a really revamped battle system that puts the 1.23b one to shame.
You have to see the names written in Kana
Sam Raimi: サム ライミ
Samurai: サムライ
In japanese there don't exist a [m] as a single letter. So how write japanese people the single [m] in foreign names/words? They use katakana letter ム (mu)
Not only are people still salty about DPS Samurai (as it should be), but they really are crying foul over the Sam Raimi thing? You were wrong. Get over it.
Sam Raimi thing made sense to me considering it was done in front of a JP audience at a JP event, so from that perspective a hint like that would've been viewed as clever wordplay whilst keeping to the comics theme (albeit obscure to audiences outside of JP). Also there was no written obligation for Yoshi to keep it simple either, so all the 'it can't be that, it's not obvious enough!' cries were silly.
If nothing else if the devs have been paying attention to threads like this they have ideas of what atleast the NA base wants for future jobs. Presumbably the JP and EU fans have had some debates themselves and they have seen what they want in the future as well.
/joke/joke
- Yoshi-P said the theme of Stormblood 4.0 was Red which is DPS,so the theme of 5.0 will be Green which is Healers and 6.0 will have the theme of Blue which is tanks
- it all makes sense now Red=SAM & RDM / Green=DNC & CHM / Blue=BLU & BST
- We will have a full class lineup by 2021 #PleaseLookForwardToIt
There were alot of people hoping the whole only 2 classes didnt turn out to be true but man that sting when it turned out to be another DPS class (I'm glad its Samurai) but whoa boy no tanks and lack of dancer which many friends were hyped for(again that sting!) is quite a bummer and how bad would it be if even in 2 years(5.0) the next healing class isnt even dancer or if they do something stupid like the theme thing which i joked about and give us tanks only for 5.0 okay but that means we gotta wait another 2 years for new healers and vice versa
That's assuming we get two new Jobs next expansion. Could be just one. The more jobs they add, they more they need to update for new level caps.
LOLOL the speculation will never cease!
Mere hours after the presentation, and we're already arguing about 5.0 jobs, and 4.0 isn't even out yet lol.
This forum is outstanding.
I don't get their reasoning for not adding more healers/tanks. "Since people who played these roles before continued to play them we won't be adding new jobs" doesn't make sense at all.
